Janssen Research & Development LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company, is recruiting a Senior Scientist, Computational Biology & Oncology Omics Integration to work on drug target identification and evaluation in Oncology and potentially other therapeutic areas in the Population Analytics & Insights group, Data Sciences organization. The primary and preferred location for this position is Spring House, PA. Qualified candidates may be considered for a remote position.
The Data Science Analytics & Insights team within Janssen R&D develops innovative solutions using a variety of data sources across multiple different disease areas. Key Responsibilities:
This Senior Scientist will be primarily focusing on building an analytic framework and on integrating genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics (x-omics) data for Oncology target identification/prioritization and systematic on-/off-target toxicity evaluation using network-based models and other innovative computational methods.
- Apply or develop a wide variety of statistical genetics and AI/ML methods to analyze phenomic and multiomics data from large population cohorts and RWE data to identify or validate potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers for Oncology.
- Act as an expert scientific leader in Oncology to support and nurture collaborations with internal and external partners to inform JRD drug development programs.
- Provide design and analysis consultation for questions of interest to our Oncology Therapeutic Areas and facilitate interactions between colleagues across the organization. Translate findings from computational analyses to support functional, biological and pharmacological validation.
- Perform and publish high-quality research that is relevant to the mission of the organization; effectively communicate data and results to our partners within and outside of J&J and work effectively with colleagues across J&J sectors.
- Provide scientific expertise and leadership for design and development of the Oncology identification and toxicity assessment framework based on expression profiling, disease profiling of functional variants, GWAS/PheWAS, causal inference, multi-omics integration, and adverse events curated from literature/DBs. Develop and validate risk and efficacy scoring metric methods for predictive modeling of toxicity using AI/ML algorithms and network perturbation analyses.
- Qualifications
- Experience with drug discovery and development practices and project support in a large pharmaceutical setting is preferred.
- Experience with multi-omics (bulk/single-cell transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics) integration, especially network analysis are preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years post-PhD experience with oncology research is required.
- Experience on bioinformatics is preferred.
- Experience with predictive modelling for toxicity of oncology drug targets are preferred.
- A Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a quantitative field – Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Statistical Genetics, Computer Science, or related fields with deep expertise in Oncology is required.
- Proficient in programming and computational skills and demonstrated ability to work with a group of scientists to deliver on objectives in defined timelines, are required.
- Outstanding communication, organizational and leadership skills, with a successful track record of publication and collaboration with cross-functional scientific teams are required.
- Independent, self-motivated, innovative, and able to excel in a goal-oriented, multifaceted and fast-moving team environment are required.

- The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. The anticipated base pay range for this position is $111,000 to $175,000. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs such as health insurance, savings plan, pension plan, disability plan, vacation pay, sick time, holiday pay, and work, personal and family time off in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
