Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for developing, planning, and executing research and product development projects for various disciplines within the clinical and life sciences fields. The incumbent will be responsible for designing and executing experiments and analyzing data to further product development and research goals. This position will supervise the work of others directly and/or across interdisciplinary teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSI BILITIES:

  • Establishes and monitors direct report performance and development goals, assigns accountabilities, sets object i ves, establishes priorities, and provides continuous feedback and recognition on performance.
  • Provides strategic direction for possible new initiatives in the protein engineering team.
  • Collaborates with multiple departments to prioritize efforts and resolve technical challenges.
  • Understands, follows and enforces laboratory safety precautions to ensure compliance with company safety policies .
  • Develops, designs, and executes experiments, sometimes complex, to support research, feasibility, and product development and qualification efforts .
  • Prepares experimental procedures, maintains laboratory notebooks and prepares procedures, batch/test records to support product development and research efforts.
  • Leads protein engineering programs to accomplish goals and manages/coordinates work of other team members.
  • Analyzes data using appropriate software, including statistical analyses, and prepares tables/graphs to highlight findings .
  • Responsible for implementing new protein engineer i ng methods for the development and manufacture of improved modalities.
  • Presents findings/analyses and any associated issues/solutions to peer groups, managers and/or clients; makes recommendations for project advancement.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience.
  • Extensive experience in various protein engineering methods and molecular biology techniques.
  • Supervisory/management experience
  • Experience using automation for high-throughput antibody screening.
  • Experience with structural-based protein design approaches and understanding of protein structure­ function relationships.
  • Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fields.

KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge in Statistics required.
  • Solid leadership skills with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of staff management practices and processes. Ability to establish accountabilities and expectations and manage performance to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated propensity to be creative, collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated in the execution and completion of assigned tasks.
  • Proven expertise, strong background and hands-on experience in antibody/protein engineering technologies.
  • Knowledge of antibody humanization and/or optimization is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to learn and embrace new technologies quickly.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple and often changing priorities and issues of varying complexity, while meeting time - sensitive deadlines and deliverables.
  • Strong analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to gather and evaluate complex data and information and develop a recommendation and plan of action.
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills regardless of the format (e.g. documents, public speaking situations, presentations, etc.).
  • Problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.
  • The ability to design and execute novel engineering approaches, develop relevant assays and analyze results should be second nature.
  • Expertise in GraphPad Prism, MS Excel and SharePoint required.
  • Track record of scientific innovation as evidenced by scientific publications, patents and oral presentations at conferences.
