Responsibilities
- Position may focus on CDL training and/or safety-related training
- Provide an appropriate learning environment, including selecting, ordering, and maintaining educational supplies, materials, and equipment
- May provide instruction or identify other resources to teach the class
- Facilitates and implements safety-related training, inspections, and programs that enhance the safety and health of employees
- Coordinate and schedule road test examinations for the CDL program trainees
- Maintain records of CDL trainees and report training results to immediate supervisor
- Performs safety inspections, accident investigations, and safety training
- Conducts needs assessment to determine type of training needed and plans, develops, and implements training and development programs based upon needs assessment
- Plans, organizes, and implements CDL training for employees in assigned department to enhance employee work-related education/skill level
- Prepare and revise the CDL program training curriculum to comply with Federal and State regulations to maintain compliance
- Performs safety analysis and reports findings
- Good organizational and planning skills
- Ability to communicate with employees at all levels
- Good math skills
- Ability to interpret and comply with federal and state regulations, laws, and procedures
- Ability to use audio-visual (A/V) aids in presentations
- Ability to assemble information and compile reports and documents
- Must possess Microsoft Office skills
- Knowledge of safety-related issues in safety and loss control methods
- Ability to stay current with certifications, governmental regulations, changes in City policy, training methods, equipment needs, budget, and departmental SOPs
- Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, standards, and regulations pertaining to specific duties and responsibilities of each job
- Associates Degree
- Be able to pass a drug screening, vision test, basic health screening, and criminal background check with a clean motor vehicle driving record.
- Must be 21 years or older
- Must have 3-5 years of mechanical and/or heavy equipment background
- 3-4 years of experience as a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Instructor and/or Commercial Driver’s License Examiner/Tester experience.
- Must have held a class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for at least 4 years
- Valid class ‘A’ Georgia Commercial Driver’s License w/ endorsements and/or a CDL Instructor’s certification.
- Completion of Technical or Vocational course of study in occupational health and safety with some of that related to safety and training
- 3-5 years of mechanical and/or heavy equipment background.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Qualified candidates are expected to have a professional Commercial Driver’s License Instructor’s certification and a valid class ‘A’ Georgia Commercial Driver’s License with endorsements.
- Must possess 4-5 years valid class ‘A’ Georgia Commercial Driver’s License w/ endorsements and/or a CDL Instructor’s certification.
- Required physical, lifting, bending, squatting, standing and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job.
