Safety Coordinator
Huntington, IN or Fremont, IN

Hunter International is currently seeking a safety coordinator for a client in Huntington, IN and Fremont, IN. The ideal candidate will have at least a year of experience in EHS roles at a manufacturing facility. The Safety Coordinator must be willing to travel between Huntington and Fremont.
Safety Coordinator Responsibilities-
- Provides assistance with maintaining the Quality and Environmental Management System certifications.
- Participates in the investigation of accidents / injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization for use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations.
- Helps ensure that environmental and safety objectives are achieved consistent with company policies.
- Ensures that governmental regulations with regard to labeling, safe handling, storage, first-aid, elimination /disposal of hazardous materials are known and are observed.
- Participates in new hire orientation process.
- Helps with the maintenance of the list of hazardous materials and substances used in the company.
- All other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.
- Assists plant management in the planning and implementation of safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
- Understands the environmental aspects, impacts, objectives and targets and how these factors affect day-to-day operations.
- Maintains good housekeeping, safety and environmental standards.
- Conducts monthly safety committee meetings.
- Ensures that employees understand their roles, responsibilities and accountabilities to the system.
- Assists with ensuring regular departmental safety audits are performed to detect existing or potential accident / health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- As requested, provides assistance with the administration of worker’s compensation programs, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.
- Assisting plant management to ensure compliance with legal requirements and environmental regulations.
- Aware of consequences to the customer, environment and the employee, if procedures are not followed.
- Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment and other materials.
- Provides information, signs, posters, barriers and other materials to warn of potential /actual safety hazards.
- Assists with the environmental/safety reports required by regulatory agencies.
Safety Coordinator Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience in a similar role
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred
- Experience working in the manufacturing or industrial industry
- Travel is required for this position between Huntington, IN and Freemont, IN.
