Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY


The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


1-Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs within timeframe specified by policy along with collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Monitor patient’s condition and assess their needs to provide the best possible care and advice.


2- Performs appropriate treatments and administrations of medication, immediate and ongoing, as ordered by provider in an accurate and timely manner.


3- Performs therapeutic nursing interventions and delivery of care with appropriate age and cultural competence as established by individualized needs/plan of care for the patient and their family.


4- Provides individualized patient/family education customized to the patient and his/her family.


5- Documents patient condition, assessment findings, and physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution.


6- Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation and advanced life support protocols.


7- Maintains confidentiality as well as providing care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.


8-Observe and interpret patient’s symptoms and communicate them to providers and other staff during shift change.


NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS


  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains current competency in nursing specialty by completing mandatory education.
  • Inspect the facilities and act to maintain excellent hygiene and safety (decontaminating equipment, sanitizing surfaces, preparing beds etc.).


REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION


  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN). Degree received from an education institution accredited by National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).


EXPERIENCE


  • Previous experience in an acute care setting.


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION


  • American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational Development on a case-by-case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two (2) years.
  • Current and in good standing RN Licensure with South Carolina Board of Nursing.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES


  • Must have ability to collaborate with others to improve quality and address needs.
  • Must possess excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in using Electronic Health Record (EMR) for patient-level care and coordination.
  • Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers.

Position Summary Responsible for performing all testing within the clinical laboratory. Will assist in organization of all work reported for the designated area. Will assist in maintaining and performing quality control, proficiency testing, instrument maintenance, and adherence to section policies and procedures. Responsible for helping maintain an adequate inventory of reagents and supplies within the clinical laboratory site as appropriate. Performs all procedures in an efficient and accurate manner. Communicates critical values according to lab policy. Responsible for training new employees in the clinical laboratory, clinic laboratory setting and point of care setting within the hospital.


In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring all point of care testing is managed appropriately within all areas assigned, i.e. Hospital and Clinic. This will include but not limited to Georgetown Memorial Hospital Nursing units (glucose meters), Emergency Department, Imaging (CT iSTAT), Outpatient surgery/Endoscopy (glucose meter and pregnancy testing), Physician practices (THG; Andrews, Hemingway, Georgetown, Oncology).


Other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director or designee.


Qualifications


Education


  • BS from an accredited College, Accredited School of Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science.


Experience


  • Experience within the clinical laboratory, hospital/clinic/reference lab setting required, including point of care testing, communicating with regulatory inspectors, The Joint Commission standards, managing processes and workflow.
  • Clinical training associated with the degree from an accredited School of Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science required.


Education


  • Satisfactory completion of an MT or MLT program from an accredited school


Licensure/Certification/ registrations


  • MT certification by ASCP, AMT, or acceptable equivalent within one year of hire


Special Skills


  • Ability to work closely with management to ensure processes and procedures are implemented and maintained within the work group.
  • Ability to be flexible, working different shifts and in different clinical laboratory areas.
  • Ability to use open communication between coworkers, physicians, hospital and clinic employee partners and healthcare leaders.
