The Jacobs Returnship program has been designed for talented professionals looking to REFRESH SKILLS, REBUILD CONFIDENCE and REIGNITE CAREERS after an extended career break and absence from the workforce. This is a paid, 16-week initiative with intent to transition our returners to permanent placement. As diverse as our business is, as are the opportunities we have available. Our cohort of Returnship participants will join multidisciplinary teams across a variety of divisions.


Your Impact:


Do you have a passion for work in the drinking water and reuse market? Join our team to help us win and deliver projects for our clients across Southern California.

Roles specific deliverables:

  • Work with our global water reuse team on cutting-edge research, optimization, and design projects.
  • Help lead clients to the correct treatment approach by utilizing desktop calculations, bench analysis, pilot plant operation, and full-scale operational troubleshooting.
  • Have the opportunity to work with conventional and advanced treatment processes, including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, granular media filtration, biological filtration, membrane filtration, disinfection (ozone, UV, chlorine), adsorption, and other treatment processes.
  • Support business development efforts and help in the pursuit of new projects.
  • Work on front end studies and alternative analyses to select the best treatment approach to solve a client’s problem
  • Work directly with clients on the projects and tasks that you are leading, developing long-term client relationships.
  • Learn from our senior technologists who are experts in the industry.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve successful design of water treatment facilities.

As a participant, you will:


  • Experience 16 weeks of on the job learning and exploration with a diverse community of professionals from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Access the vast network of resources at Jacobs through continual leadership development, support, and mentorship from our dedicated Returnship program team
  • Be confident that you will receive ongoing mentorship and support as you navigate the transition with us to permanent employment
  • Be a part of our Returnship cohort community participating in regular focus group feedback session and social events to facilitate a seamless transition as you return to the workforce
Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • You have had a voluntary career break of at least 1 year
  • 5 year’s work experience in relevant water treatment and process engineering
  • Candidates should have strong communication skills, be self-motivated, detail oriented, quality-driven, and team-focused


Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Environmental or Chemical Engineering

The base salary range for this position is $31.63 to $75.63. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
