Job Description

Job Summary Overview

Responsible for always providing prompt and friendly food and beverage service to our members and their guests by following the standards set by the Food & Beverage managers. This role will set the stage for a guest's experience and will be responsible for the guest's experience. This individual will be all-knowing with regard to our menu, beverage, and wine offerings. The server will be energetic, enthusiastic, highly motivated, and passionate about hospitality, food and beverage.

  • Ability to read, speak and interpret documents in clear English.
  • Prior experience working in a fine dining restaurant or club preferred.
  • Learns members’ names and their special preferences.
  • Knowledge of wines and spirits.
  • Ability to time the service of each course.
  • Ability to think quickly on their feet and multi-task with ease.

Job Summary: (Essential Functions)

  • Provide food and beverage service to club members and guests.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Job Tasks/Duties:

  • Serves meals; places dishes by courses in front of each person.
  • Presents the bill to confirm accuracy of items billed and member numbers for billing.
  • Advises supervisor of any complaints as soon as they occur.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and guidelines.
  • Places orders with kitchen; communicate with the kitchen regarding any menu questions, allergies, dietary needs, and special requests along with the length of wait and product availability.
  • Provide information to management to update guest profiles in reservation system.
  • Sets up side station and performs assigned side (prep) work.
  • Makes sure that children are in the appropriate type of seat and are safe and secure.
  • Maintain a gracious, pleasant, and friendly attitude, while contributing to a teamwork-based work environment.
  • Clears, cleans and resets tables that have been vacated.
  • Responsible for guiding the guest through the Yacht Club dining experience while contributing to the overall success of the team and operations.
  • Check with guests to ensure satisfaction with each food course and beverages; replenishes water and butter as necessary.
  • Consistently follows local and state laws and the club’s policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages to members and guests.
  • Distributes food and wine menus; answers questions.
  • All servers must have proper tools for service. This includes: waiter pad, pen, crumber, and wine key.
  • Work with sense of urgency to properly manage time and resources to balance the guest experience and the needs of the club.
  • Able to answer any questions regarding menu and assist with menu selections.
  • Ensure you are a working part of achieving a 5.0 in member satisfaction.
  • Always applies service techniques correctly at all times, and serves Food & Beverage items with enthusiasm.
  • Provides immediate attention to all members and guests upon seating.
  • Presents dessert menus, suggests and serves dessert, coffee and after-dinner drinks.
  • Comply with all LYC policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook and always maintain a professional demeanor while representing The Club.
  • Completes all opening, mid, and closing procedures; completes daily checklist and side work assignments.
  • Attends pre-meal meetings as requested by the Food & Beverage Director, Food & Beverage Manager, or Banquet Captain.
  • Comprehensive beverage, cocktail knowledge and wine; knowledge of grape varietals, styles of wine, and uses knowledge to sell items and make educated suggestions to our guests regarding wine and beer pairings.
  • Ensure that the correct account numbers and names are given for billing.
  • Complete specific pre-service duties, side work and station maintenance, and applicable closing duties.
  • Handles any complaints with genuine concern and elevates to manager when necessary.
  • Create an experience in such a way that guests feel compelled to return to the restaurant.
  • All servers must maintain a professional appearance at all times. This includes all of the following: Neatly groomed hair, nails, facial hair, not wearing overpowering perfume/cologne and always in a clean stain free uniform. Refer to the Uniform SOP or see a Manager if you have any questions
  • Keeps dining room and bus station areas clean.
  • Removes soiled dishes. Clears tables after each course and resets them with appropriate silverware.
  • Provide each member and guest with a friendly welcome and a farewell to ensure a positive and memorable visit.
  • Efficiently serves food and drinks in a friendly and courteous manner, offers suggestions on daily specials and wine selections.

Additional duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum 1-year experience working in a fine dining restaurant of similar caliber preferred.
  • Ability to think quickly on their feet and multi-task with ease.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule. (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Grade 12 education.

Licenses and Special Requirements

  • Alcoholic beverage certification, preferred
  • Of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Food safety certification, preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Work in cold or hot, humid and noisy environment.
  • Ability to push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Medium work requiring; balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing.
  • Required to stand for long periods up to 10 hours and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch and twist or reach.

  • Visual acuity to perform an activity where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach.
  • Hearing/Listening
  • Continuous repetitive motions.
