POSITION SUMMARY

The Resident Service Engineer is the on-site service technical liaison at a major truck OEM for all service and troubleshooting activities with regards to ZF PowerLine transmission technology. This position is responsible for coordinating the diagnostic and problem resolution at the OEM according to internal and external requirements. The Resident Service Engineer also supports general transmission system fault tree analysis for our product at the OEM and represents ZF as the expert in function and application within the OEM platform.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the diagnoses of complex field complaints through collaboration with the OEM technical service personnel, OEM field Dealer personnel, and ZF personnel using available root cause analysis tools.
• Support (on-site as necessary) any service issues arising during customer testing stages related to ZF product including, but not limited to, providing technical support for customer prototype and vehicle builds, vehicle tests, dynamometer and component tests, and transmission systems integration projects.
• Participate in ZF continuous-improvement activities to test and assist with development of product, improve data analysis techniques, and to develop new service procedures.
• Serve as a technical liaison to the customer for all service activities. Provide clarification and technical explanation of ZF product specifications, component functions, configurations, and backward compatibility.
• Relay requests for non-service issues to appropriate departments at ZF.

Qualifications:

• Experience with automotive communication links (SAE J1939; SAE J1587, etc.), engine controls, and transmission controls preferred. Experience with standard engine/transmission service tools and software also preferred
• Ability to travel domestic and internationally (approximately 25% of the time) required
• B.S. in Engineering in Mechanical/Electrical, Computer/Software, or related field required
• Deep knowledge of the technical components and critical functions of an automatic transmission and/or automated manual transmission – specifically for the medium-duty and heavy-duty truck market – required
• Proficiency with data acquisition & development tools (e.g. ETAS INCA, CANalyzer, etc.) desired
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Engineer or Technician within a powertrain development and/or manufacturing environment within commercial vehicle or automotive industry required
• Solid knowledge of N. American Medium-Duty and Heavy-Duty truck OEMs, their products, and the technical requirements specific to N. America (Class 3-8) as well as experience with N. American Class 3-8 engines as they relate to automatic transmissions is a plus
• Experience in multiple troubleshooting strategies, including 5S, 6-Sigma, 8D, etc. as well as experience with ZF Testman and associated systems for use in troubleshooting transmission issues is necessary
• Experience with VEPS EOL programming stations and associated processes in N. American Truck OEMs preferred
