THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED POSITON


JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This position exists to perform research tasks related to research projects and ensure smooth implementation of research studies under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI).


Duties And Responsibilities


  • Performs molecular, biochemical and cell culture experiments. Cell culture and various kinds of cell based assays (cell death, cell viability, proliferation etc.).
  • Extracts RNA, protein, lipids from cells and perform cDNA synthesis, gene expression studies using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, confocal microscopy etc.
  • Harvests tissue, maintain inventory and up-to-date records of mice-rats status/experimental data within in-house database.
  • Performs tissue culture using sterile technique and maintain cell lines.
  • Assists Principal Investigator in experiments with laboratory mouse and rats, and biochemical, molecular and cell culture studies.
  • Performs laboratory experiments with mouse and rats.
  • Conducts experiments on light-damage, genetically modified mice, experiments on corneal burn and imaging.
  • Collects and enters research data, analysis of the data and assists with the writing of progress reports for various grants and in the production of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Assists the Principal Investigators in implementing study protocols, data collection, analysis, and assisting with the writing of progress reports.
  • Collects tissue (mostly eyes) and process for histological analyses by paraffin block and sectioning, staining etc.
  • Breeds, genotype, maintain record and conduct visual experiments (ERG, OKT etc.) with live mice and rats.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements


EDUCATION: Master ’s Degreein one of the sciences . (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)


EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of relevant experience in biochemical, molecular and cell biology research, preferably with extensive use of laboratory mouse and rat models. OR PhD. in related field will be accepted in lieu of experience OR Bachelor’s Degreein one of the sciences four (4) years relevant experience in biochemical, molecular and cell biology research, preferably with extensive use of laboratory mouse and rat models


Must be able to work with small rodents/animals. (Work experience in biological/medical sciences preferred).


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Skills conducting medical investigations by biochemical, molecular, and cellular experiments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency using Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Photoshop, Prism, etc.
  • Skills on proper handling of laboratory mouse and rats and conducting experiments of vision, diabetes, and neurodegenerative animal models.
  • Knowledge of current safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience working with laboratory animals.
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills.


WORK SCHEDULE: This position may be occasionally required to work weekends and travel overnight. May be required to frequently work evenings.
