Job Description

Responsibilities

The Gern laboratory in the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR) at Seattle Children's is seeking a motivated Research Scientist I to help facilitate the day-to-day operation of the lab and assist lab members with experiments. This is a unique type of position that requires significant individual initiative and motivation to learn and understand both existing and new scientific methods and knowledge. The successful applicant will be integrated into ongoing research projects and will design, execute, interpret, and present results on experiments, as well as plan follow up studies within a TB Biohazard Safety Level III lab. As the Research Scientist gains experience, they will be given the opportunity and be responsible for conducting independent and creative research related to the overall mission of the laboratory. Enthusiasm, curiosity, and initiative to learn new methods, collaborate, and perform work efficiently and carefully are essential. Training in techniques that are unfamiliar will be provided. The Research Scientist will spend the majority of their time making contributions to on-going laboratory projects, requiring the ability to use independent judgment to address tasks and projects, and will identify and refine existing procedures and practices. They will also participate in the management of a small rodent colony. The successful candidate will join a supportive and dynamic group within a collaborative environment at the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research and the greater Seattle research community. Our lab conducts research investigating spatially-resolved immune responses against tuberculosis and utilizes cutting-edge imaging and immunologic approaches to investigate responses to TB in the mouse model and human tissues. The driving purpose behind these efforts is to inform new strategies to combat human TB through host-directed therapies or improved vaccines. For more information about our research, see gernlab.comKey responsibilities:- Tissue harvest and processing in a TB Biohazard III lab- Advanced confocal microscopy techniques- Flow cytometry- Cell culture- Genotyping of mice (DNA extraction, PCR, Agarose Gel Electrophoresis)- Managing mouse colony and maintaining mouse census- Lab organization, ordering supplies and record keeping- Setting up immunological assays- General lab support

Requirements

Required Education/Experience: - Bachelor's Degree in biology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology or biochemistry. - Prior experience in a laboratory setting. Required Credentials: - N/A Preferred: - Research experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, and tissue culture techniques is highly preferred.

Min to Max Hourly Salary

$24.36 - $36.54 /hr

Min to Max Annual Salary

$50,668.80 - $76,003.20 /yr

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.

Seattle Children's offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
