Pennington Biomedical Research Center
, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Research Nurse in the Clinical Trials Unit.
The Research Nurse will organize and monitor the provision of research procedures with scientists and physician to ensure the accurate and timely collection of research subject/volunteer data. The position will collaborate and work closely with the Principal Investigator, Project Managers, Recruitment Coordinators, Research Dieticians, Interventionists, Nurses, Research Specialists, Data Management personnel, Imaging, Metabolic Kitchen, Fitness Center, Clinical Research Laboratory, Pharmacy, any other institutional ancillary department, and all other agencies involved in the clinical trial to ensure compliance with the study protocols.
Job Responsibilities
  • Attend study start-up meetings for protocols requiring nursing intervention.
  • Perform study related procedures that, per study protocol, requires a nurse.
  • Provide individual education and counseling to clinical trial participants regarding study drug administration, side effects and compliance as specified in the study protocol. Provide demonstration on injectable study drugs and/or self-testing monitors (i.e. glucometer).
  • Administer injectable study drug to clinical trial participants.
  • Attend Investigator Meetings and/or web-based study specific training for the nursing interventions associated with a protocol. Train other research nurses in protocol specific procedures as required.
  • Collect, record, and analyze clinical trial participants’ study drug compliance as specified in the study protocol.
  • Screen potential study participants to determine eligibility and possible study drug compliance issues.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Current license to practice in the state of Louisiana
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Certification as a Registered Nurse
