Overview

Technology Advancement & Commercialization (TAC) provides scientific and engineering solutions for difficult problems existing in the fields of health, energy, and environment. In TAC, applied research and development, along with prototyping and scale-up activities, are concentrated in numerous research and application labs, as well as in a pilot plant facility located on RTI’s main campus.

TAC’s scientific and engineering experts cover a broad spectrum of disciplines including biomechanical, chemical, electrical, environmental, and mechanical engineering. They commonly work on cross-disciplinary research teams with biologists, chemists, and physicists and are currently looking to add a highly motivated Research Chemist for its materials research program at RTI headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Research Chemist for our materials research program at RTI headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC. You will work in catalyst, sorbent and membrane development for gas separations, conversions and water purification. Ideally, you will have a strong background in Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and porous materials and be adaptable to a broad variety of synthetic techniques, characterizations, separations, purifications. You will be able to converse effectively with researchers from a wide variety of backgrounds and expected to work with teams on patents, scientific publications, and proposal writing.


Responsibilities
  • Assist PI with preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations for dissemination of results.
  • Keep and maintain laboratory notebooks and conduct data analysis, processing, and presentation.
  • Operate lab equipment and perform routine maintenance as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
  • Write experimental summaries and technical reports, and complete paperwork by assigned dates.
  • Plan and execute experiments and analyze data. Develop and modify experimental protocols in consultation with PI.
  • Ensure availability of the necessary materials and equipment to carry out experiments and communicate to PI as needed to maintain continuous workflow.

Qualifications
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Recent experience in all or most of the following: MOFs, COFs, porous materials, solid-state chemistry, XRD spectroscopy, TGA, sorption, GC-MS.
  • A degree in Chemistry or Materials Science with + 5 yrs of research, or PhD + 2yrs of experience (Post-Doc), with a preference being a PhD with a publication track record.
