Our research and evaluation and technical assistance work is strengths-based, with a cross-sector approach involving collaboration with programs, providers, and systems in these content areas:
- Public Health, Schools, and Communities (community engagement, comprehensive safety in schools and in communities, mental health promotion and school-based mental health services, school discipline, social determinants of health, suicide prevention, trauma-informed care and approaches, and violence prevention)
- Youth Development & Family Engagement (arts, community schools, family engagement, nature and environmental education, out-of-school time, sports, youth engagement, and youth leadership development).
- Whole Child Learning & Development in K-12 Educational Settings (conditions for learning, mindsets and mindfulness, restorative practices, school climate, science of learning and development, and social and emotional learning and related frameworks)
- Thriving Youth & Justice Systems (adolescent science, criminal justice and policing, intergenerational supports for families impacted by the justice system, juvenile justice, re-entry and supports, restorative justice, social justice, youth engagement, and youth led movements)
Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations.

Research Associates bring prior knowledge, training, and experience to fulfill specific tasks and collaborate with and support project teams to meet project goals and prepare deliverables. The work varies by project scope and purpose and may include:
- Provide management support to medium to large proposals by tracking complex tasks, collecting and reviewing documents, coordinating meetings, coordinating activities with the contracts office and finance office developing budget assumptions and drafting text
- Clean, code, and analyze data from survey data, interviews, observations, and extant data using the appropriate scientific approaches and software (e.g., Nvivo, STATA, R, or SPSS)
- Work well in team-based projects and proposals
- Clearly communicate knowledge of the project purpose and objectives to clients when necessary and represent AIR in a professional manner
- Coordinate activities for research projects and support project management, including developing and tracking project timelines, activities, and deliverables; supporting budget management; and preparing submissions for IRB and data governance review
- Communicate effectively, orally or in writing, with clients, staff, and other stakeholders
- Prepare documents, portions of reports, briefs, charts, and graphs that describe and interpret findings of analyses
- Assist in qualitative and/or quantitative data collection such as development of interview protocol and surveys; supporting participant recruitment; conducting interviews and notetaking; supporting survey data collection
Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Experience supporting research project and proposal management and budgets
- Passionate about public health, violence prevention and child wellbeing
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience or Master’s degree within Social Sciences (Public Health, Public Policy, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, etc.)
- Intern, volunteer, or work experience in organizations that support youth, family, or community development a plus but not required
Skills:
- Effective communicator with a commitment to working in a culturally competent work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Strong teamwork skills and positive contributor to team efficiency
- Knowledge and experience with public health approaches to prevention
- Comfortable working independently under supervision while committed to details and quality
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when writing
- Strong time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask
Disclosures:
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
