Job Description
Overview
Join AIR as a Research Assistant with our Education Statistics team. The mission of our team of experts is to provide statistical evidence that is meaningful, timely, accurate, and trustworthy. Our Education Statistics portfolio focuses on the development, collection, analysis, and communication of international, national, and state statistics. Our primary practice hubs are:
  • Measurement and statistics in large-scale surveys
  • Standards and assessment
Our Education Statistics team is driven by our mission to make the world a better, more equitable place.
We are seeking a Research Assistant to join AIR’s Education Statistics program area. The assistant would contribute to the development of statistics about education that inform the discussion, debate, and planning of decision-makers at international, national, and state levels through contracts with government agencies such as the National Center for Education Statistics, the Institute of Museum and Library Studies, the National Science Foundation, Interagency Forums on Child and Family Statistics , as well as contracts with state education agencies. Our work includes survey and assessment design, analysis of assessment and survey data, and reporting and dissemination of research results.
Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the Unites States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities for the position include:
  • Effectively communicating with people external to the organization
  • Assist staff in the review, identification and development of scholarly information describing research findings
  • Collaborate in a study team to analyze quantitative and/or qualitative research data and contribute to the reporting and interpretation of results
  • Review and provide comments on draft products (e.g., tables, reports, data files, file documentation, and web sites) for statistical and technical soundness and support the lead reviewer in documenting and coordinating the review process
  • Participate in the collection, analysis, and review of research and evaluation data
  • Perform quality control reviews of statistical content, statistical tables, graphics, and text
  • Managing administrative aspects of projects, to include scheduling and note taking during meetings.
  • Provide new business and proposal development support by engaging in such tasks as researching funding opportunities, conducting literature reviews, writing proposal sections, etc.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Experience with or inclination to learn and use statistical software programs such as R
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis methodologies and techniques, such as survey design, analysis of program administrative data, and conduct of structured interviews, observations, and focus groups
  • Experience or interest in federal surveys
  • Taken an Introduction to Statistics level course and/or has a basic understanding of/exposure to basic descriptive and inferential statistics
  • Bachelor's degree in such fields as economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, computer science, public policy, public health or other social science related fields

Disclosures
This position is open to U.S. citizens only. Upon hire, incumbent will be required to obtain clearance through the Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) system .
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program , is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $50,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
