Summary


The Economic Growth Institute (EGI) reports to the Office of the Vice President for Government Relations. EGI works to leverage the University of Michigan and other public/private resources, research, technologies, and expertise to foster innovation and equitable economic growth. EGI transforms these resources into programs that provide business and communities? assistance, support, and intervention.


EGI is seeking a research area specialist intermediate. This individual, under the direction of the research manager, will advance research projects to further build a body of knowledge in equitable economic growth for the EGI. The research area specialist intermediate will direct economic and industry data collection and organization, conduct analyses, and identify findings for various qualitative and quantitative studies in equitable economic growth. Additionally, this position will manage day to day expenditures related to research projects. This position will manage and mentor student graduate and undergraduate Research Associates in the development and execution of associated projects. This position is responsible to adhere to fiscal and programmatic policies.


This position will heavily be remote based with travel across Michigan as needed.


Term-Limited Appointment: 100% until June 2024; with possibility of continued funding for additional years.


Responsibilities*


Economic Research Analysis


Gathers and analyzes data for economic and fiscal indicators for communities, organizations, and industry sectors


Develops actionable data reports to inform decision makers


Assists in authoring in publications and presentations


Presents findings to various audiences


Maintain and update reporting, project management, and database systems


Maintains relationships with clients, acting as the primary point of contact between organization leadership and EGI as assigned


Works collaboratively with EGI partners and U-M faculty


Assists in acquiring research funding


Research Associate Management


Supervise and direct student research associates in associated projects


Required Qualifications*


Bachelor degree in social science, with 4-5 years related experience


Proven experience in identifying data sources, data collection, organization, and management


Skilled in presenting research in plain language to diverse audiences


Strong understanding of economics and its impact on society


Skilled in presenting research in plain language to diverse audiences


Established experience defining priorities, working through conflicts and identifying creative solutions


Advanced MS Office/Google Suite knowledge. Proficient business and academic writing skills. Excellent communication skills: follows verbal direction; ability to ask clarifying questions


Acquainted with office management systems, procedures, discretion and confidentiality


Desired Qualifications*


Master Degree with 4-5 years related experience


Experience in applied research and writing reports for multiple audiences


Knowledge of Michigan industries


Advanced knowledge of economics


Community engagement experience
