Job Description
Job Summary
Avantor is looking for a dedicated and experience Reliability + Rotating Equipment Engineer to optimize our NuSil team, delivering results against some of the most complex business and technology initiatives.
This role will be a full-time position based out of our Carpinteria, CA facility. You will have the opportunity to evaluate and analyze products, components, materials, and equipment in order to understand and predict failures. The team
Avantor’s Biomaterials and Operations team is part of our NuSil Technology business unit. This team supports the maintenance and reliability department by helping with the maintenance and workflow of the facility.
What we’re looking for
  • Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Certification(s): Familiarity with OSHA PSM Mechanical Integrity requirements and regulations
  • Collaboration Tool: CAD modeling, DEA, design optimizations
  • Experience: 5+ years experience working with rotating and fixed equipment including agitators, pumps, turbines, compressors, tanks, reactors, heat exchangers, and etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree
  • SAP and/or experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • SolidWorks experience
How you will thrive and create an impact
The Reliability + Rotating Equipment Engineer will act as a resource to junior reliability engineers. Evaluate and analyze products, components, materials, and equipment for the purpose of understanding and predicting failures. Review product designs, material specifications, and manufacturing capability to predict reliability and dependability. Create prototypes and conduct product tests to gather reliability data. Interpret test results and recommend solutions using appropriate statistical distributions and reliability models. Recommend product design changes or alterations in manufacturing processes and controls to ensure achievement of required reliability levels. Monitor production equipment diagnostics and review maintenance record in order to predict and prevent equipment down times. Document findings, including results of root cause analysis, and facilitate the implementation of necessary changes to ensure product and/or equipment reliability levels are maintained. Determine maintenance requirements and schedules for products and equipment.
  • Act as internal subject matter expert for rotating equipment, while driving efficiency and substantive improvement in the operation of the equipment.
  • Cross-site coordination for parts stock and inventory development and management, equipment modifications and studies, and streamlining of maintenance plans
  • Troubleshoot and repair down equipment, occasionally leading groups of mechanics and engineers
  • Build and maintain contractor and vendor relationships to address reliability-related repairs and maintenance
  • Design and install optimized components for the equipment fleet
  • Review product designs, material specifications, and manufacturing capability to predict reliability and dependability
  • Perform return on investment (ROI) calculations for growth capital projects
  • Assess, troubleshoot, and drive improvement efforts for rotating equipment fleet
  • Create prototypes and conduct product tests to gather reliability data
  • May determine maintenance requirements and schedules for products and equipment and direct Engineering Mechanics / Electricians / Contractors on aspects of various projects
  • Investigate injury and incident reports related to engineering personnel or equipment reliability-related issues
  • Lead the refurbishment and repair of rotating and fixed equipment
  • Function as the key user for Engineering in SAP go-live and beyond and training Engineering team on EAM functions
  • Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Reliability & Maintenance Mechanics, and Process Engineering to plan and design equipment upgrades and optimization to support company fixed and rotating equipment fleet
  • Reliability and maintainability assessments of capital projects by other groups/engineers
  • Uphold and implement Safety Procedures and High Hazard permits for associates and contractors
  • Involvement in equipment PSM, including Process Hazard Analysis, Process Safety Information, and Mechanical Integrity
  • Convert CMMS to task lists, plans, and strategies in new SAP environment
  • Documentation activities including Installation/OperationalQualification, Equipment Operating Procedures, Work Instructions (LOTO, Preventative Maintenance), safety training
  • Recommend product design changes or alterations in manufacturing processes and controls to ensure achievement of required reliability levels
  • Scope and execute capital projects for reliability-related improvements / repairs
  • Preventive maintenance writing and scheduling
  • Document findings, including results of root cause analysis, and facilitate the implementation of necessary changes to ensure product and/or equipment reliability levels are maintained
  • Maintenance and Reliability program development and implementation to enhance the capabilities of the Engineering group, promoting a more proactive culture
  • Interpret test results and recommend solutions using appropriate statistical distributions and reliability models
  • Monitor production equipment diagnostics and review maintenance record in order to predict and prevent equipment down times

Pay Transparency:
The expected pre-tax pay for this position is
$107,100.00 - $178,500.00
Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
