POSITION OVERVIEW:

The New Jersey Devils are committed to moving the organization in a new and innovative direction. In 2019, the medical and performance departments aligned to optimize the support provided to the athletes within the New Jersey Devils organization, extending the same philosophies and resources through to the AHL affiliate, Utica Comets. The collective New Jersey Devils and Utica Comets Athlete Care departments will treat all of our athletes as “NHLers” delivering the highest quality of medical and performance services to all, fostering deep, caring relationships as we innovate, grow and learn to keep athletes safe transforming talent into excellence.

Health and availability are fundamental to the organization protecting its assets and achieving our goals. With that, movement and function are crucial underpinnings to athletic performance ability. Our performance methodology seeks to maximize athletic development and create a transferrable impact on hockey performance and increasing durability. By utilizing objective measures within a process-driven system, we will best prepare our athletes for competition and recovery from injury.

This role will involve leading the rehabilitation and return to play process for players at the NHL level. This will be done building upon a progressive performance methodology, using objective measures and technology to proactively evaluate all athletes’ movement competencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Assist with treatments and on-ice coverage
• Responsible for leading return to play (RTP) strategy
• Provide a high quality, professional and thorough service across all aspects of your general responsibilities
• Raise any areas of potential grievance or opportunity with the manager at the earliest possible stage
• Provide summaries of relevant information to the group on any conferences or courses attended during the season
• Provide leadership over injury risk analysis for prospect development.
• Complete all specific tasks delegated to you by the management in a timely and efficient manner
• Maintain a record of Continuing Professional Development
• Communicating key steps and milestones to all relevant stakeholders within the organization in a professional, timely and efficient manner.
• Providing evidence-based literature reviews / analysis for management
• Provide and support link between medical and weight room.
• Contribution to the development and maintenance of an ‘Operations Manual’ for the medical and performance department
• Managing and coordinating medical appointment vists/ follow ups.
• Lead for long term rehabilitation of injured players
• Provide education “in-services” as required on topics suggested by management services, including at least one presentation on the views of an external professional in a field of interest to the group (or alternatively bring that expert in to present directly)
• Conducting and coordinating treatment plans for players as indicated.
• Key role in coordinating the assessment of injury risk and analysis for draft, free agent and trade acquisitions.
• Maintain suitable levels of personal fitness appropriate for the physical nature of this role
• Establish close working and professional relationships with the medical, sports performance, NHL staff, and coaching staff
• Provide regular updates on journal articles of interest to the group

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with data management systems to ensure the secure and efficient storage of monitoring and evaluation data
• Experience with statistics, research evaluation, technology and performance coaching
• Elite sports experience required; Hockey experience highly encouraged
• Experience with technologies including force plates, blood flow restriction, load monitoring or similar
• Preferred dual credentialed ATC, CSCS
• DPT required, capable of being licensed in NJ

• Travel Requirements: Full-time team travel schedule with Utica Comets

• Work Environment: This position generally requires that work be performed from the Utica Comets offices, butattendance at events taking place in the arena or offsite, including on weekends and/or holidays, will be required
