Job Description

Job Summary

Responsible for managing overall hospital operations in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer

Essential Functions

  • Maintain a database for all patients and the stages of ulcers that they have.
  • Implements Pressure Ulcer Protocol to ensure optimal skin integrity
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are updated according to the latest evidenced base practice and guidelines.
  • Ensures that patients identified as PU risk or PU triggers are seen within 24 hours.
  • Ensures that the Wound Care clinicians are able to follow up on all patients that need to be seen and reevaluated.
  • Coordinates with the Nursing team and Medical Director of Wound Care in all aspects of care
  • Participates in training, orientation and supervision of new employees
  • Collects, interprets or relays quality improvement data for the unit.
  • Verbalizes unit specific quality improvement projects
  • Coordinates interdepartmental transfers smoothly and efficiently
  • Intervenes appropriately to address identified problems and needs. Plans care according to standards of care. Manages time efficiently/sets priorities appropriately.
  • Verifies, coordinates and carries out physicians orders accurately
  • Coordinates interdepartmental activities (i.e. lab, radiology, etc.) to ensure timely efficient care.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to hospital staff
  • Performs a thorough and timely assessment of patient’s condition including physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative aspects.
  • Follows the 5 “rights” when administering medications (patient, route, time, dose, med)
  • Communicates with physicians - gives recommendations.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises plan if necessary.
  • Documentation on the patient’s medical record is accurate, complete and concise.
  • Uses 2 patient identifiers before administering medications.
  • Provides education consistent with the patient/family’s learning abilities and preferences; evaluates outcomes
  • Verbalizes hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and practices department safety procedures, including safe handling of equipment and hazardous substances.
  • Practices Universal Standard Precautions
  • Identifies problems/nursing needs including discharge needs
  • Communicates and coordinates with Case Manager to ensure timely discharge, patient satisfaction and quality care along the continuum of care.
  • Communicates pertinent assessment data to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary health team.
  • Initiates and completes special project programs relating to skin/wound care as required
  • Reports pertinent observations regarding patients to physicians and other health care team members and maintains National Patient Safety Goals
  • Initiates incident reports appropriately.

Minimum Education/Certifications
Graduate from an accredited Nursing School. 3-5 years management experience preferred Baccalaureate degree preferred.

Current NJ State RN license

WOCN certification

Minimum Work Experience.
