Job Description

We are looking for Part Time/Full Time or PRN nurses who are interested in learning ophthalmology. We are willing to train new grads and are open to providing a flexible schedule that meets your needs.

The Eye Surgery Center, recognized as a Cataract Innovator, is an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) that specializes in same-day surgery of the eye with 11 ophthalmologists located just outside of Washington, DC, in Silver Spring, MD. We attract patients throughout the Tri-State area due to the skill of our caring physicians and staff.

The Eye Surgery Center has served the Washington, DC area and beyond for almost 20 years. Well known throughout the country, our doctors are published writers and frequent lecturers. They are innovators, holding 14 medical patents and pioneers in laser cataract surgery. As a Registered Nurse at The Eye Surgery Center, you will utilize your skills and expertise to provide intra-operative care to patients. You will demonstrate proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.

Paid Time Off:

Amsurg offers paid time off, 9 observed holidays and paid family leave. You accrue Paid Time Off (PTO) each pay period and depending on your position and can earn a minimum of 20 days and up to 25 days per calendar year.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains patient’s privacy and dignity
  • Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the OR room according to requirements of patient, physician, and procedure, to include but not be limited to, assembling and providing properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments
  • Confirms proper aseptic and sterile techniques are used according to accepted standards of practice
  • Administers medication(s) per order of physician, documents appropriately
  • Provides comfort and reassurance to patient
  • Reviews patient’s medical record and needs, to provide continuity of care collaboratively, with other members of the healthcare team
  • Accurately comprehends and interprets physician orders and direction, following policy and procedures
  • You will be responsible for overseeing instrument and equipment set up
  • Ensures the appropriate and safe positioning of the patient according to patient needs and planned procedure and monitors throughout procedure
  • Monitors patient condition and maintains accurate documentation during procedure
  • Works collaboratively with the surgical/procedure team to verify sterility and/or high level of disinfection of instruments and supplies according to policy and procedure
  • Monitors and identifies breaks in sterile technique
  • Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure safe continuity of patient care according to policy and procedures
  • You will update preference cards, when necessary
  • Verifies planned procedure(s) with patient and discusses plan of care
  • Documents medical records and other forms accurately, legibly and in a timely manner, following policies and procedures

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Maintain basic cardiac life support certification and ACLS
  • Current state license to practice as a registered nurse
