The Food & Nutrition Department has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL TIME, REGISTERED DIETITIAN. The Dietitian assesses patient nutritional status and needs, develops and implements nutritional care plans, and evaluates and reports those results appropriately. They provide clinical dietitian services and/or nutrition education services to either/both inpatients or outpatients, as assigned, either in a group setting or individually.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides nutritional screening, assessment, and care planning for assigned areas of patient care, includes but is not limited to:
  • Evaluates patients’ diet, nutritional needs, and lifestyle.
  • Develops comprehensive nutritional care plans to promote disease prevention and treatment for assigned patients; initiates consultation with members of the health care team (including physicians), when indicated.
  • Follows-up and evaluates progress.
  • Documents care plan, results, and services provided.
  • Participates with health care team on clinical rounds and patient care conferences.
  • Provides nutritional education to patients, includes but is not limited to:
    Clinical Dietitian: Educates inpatients on nutrition and diet. Participates in outpatient nutrition clinic and group nutrition education classes as assigned.
    Education/Outpatient Dietitian:
  • Provides nutrition education to inpatients and to outpatients, either in a group (classroom) setting or on an individual basis. This includes the diabetic clinic (DSMT Program) and cardiac rehab clinic. Provides follow-up education for inpatients and gestational diabetics.
  • Adheres to Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) policies and procedures.
  • Schedules patients for outpatient clinic.
  • Follows -up with doctors and office staff to coordinate nutritional care.
  • Follows -up with patients to encourage, motivate, and answer questions.
  • Documents services provided in patient charts. Enters charges for billing for services. Assists in determining reimbursement for services.
  • Analyzes effectiveness of services – financial/patient outcomes.
  • Participates in Diabetes Advisory Council Meetings
    Standards and performance improvement includes but is not limited to:
  • Assists in development and implementation of nutritional standards of care.
  • Participates in performance / quality improvement programs.
  • Participates in compliance activities to meet Joint Commission and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Supports patient satisfaction and customer service initiatives.
    Integrates nutritional care program with food production and delivery, includes but is not limited to:
  • Works closely with and provides direction to diet technicians, diet clerks, and other food service staff to ensure patient room meals are prepared and delivered in a manner consistent with nutritional care plan.
    Committees and collaboration includes but is not limited to:
  • Serves as a member of committees, work groups, and multidisciplinary teams as appropriate.
  • Serves as consultant / liaison and provides nutritional expertise and input.
  • Participates on special projects as assigned.
  • Trains and mentors new staff and/or students.
    REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree with major in Dietetics or Food & Nutrition and completion of an American Dietetic Association approved program
  • Must be eligible for registration at the time of hire and must pass registration exam within one year of date of hire
    DESIRED:
  • One year previous hospital dietetic experience
