The Regional Education Coordinator includes working closely with the Superintendent of Education Services to provide supervision of education programs in all correctional facilities within the assigned area, including the facilities that house the four youth schools.
We're looking to fill four (4) Regional Education Coordinators with the NC Department of Adult Corrections; positions: 65015697, 65014427, 65015702, and 60058332.
This position provides consultative and administrative work providing technical assistance and support for the planning, development, implementation, continuous improvement, and evaluation of activities, including training of prison staff for educational programs in the prison system. The Regional Education Coordinator provides consultation, guidance, and support to education programs in prison facilities and schools that cut across curriculum lines and impact the instructional process in all areas such as adult basic skills, English as Second Language education, high school equivalency education, compensatory education, special education, vocational education, life skills education, and post-secondary education.
This position will require approximately 80% travel.
Additional responsibilities but not limited to:
- Researching and evaluating data for use in program planning and for the improvement of education services in the prison facilities
- Develop and maintain a presence as a lead consultant for Education Services and will represent Education Services as a public spokesperson
- Developing training packages and opportunities for various education programs in prison facilities and with postsecondary partners
- Responding to requests for assistance from education staff at the prison facilities, postsecondary partners and other central office personnel.
- Communicating with the NC Department of Commerce, the NC Department of Labor and other community partners to determine appropriate employment opportunities for released offenders in relationship to education programming
- Assisting prison education personnel in researching, planning, and developing innovative projects to improve curriculum and instruction of offenders
- Implementing and maintaining innovative employment opportunities, such as ensuring programs that lead to credentials, licenses, and apprenticeships; support and manage such credentials.
- Providing guidance and supervision for vocational education and/or degree programs with the community colleges and other postsecondary partners in areas of training, monitoring, consultation, program implementation, and program evaluation
- Writing and/or revising education practices and policies, evaluating, and revising education program components, and identifying instructional delivery requirements.
- Guiding the development and/or revision of curriculum, consulting on current instructional methodologies, and evaluating and advising on the use of instructional material.
Qualified applicants must possess the following KSAs, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Ability to effectively convey ideas, in oral and written form, to federal, state, and local educational agency personnel.
- Knowledge of education methods and techniques, education planning and research administration and other aspects of education as it relates to the educational services of the work section and the subject matter assignment within the position's area of concentration.
- Ability to coordinate effective working arrangements with committee and work associates, educational administrators, education partners, educators, principals and other organizations, and the general public; and provide leadership in the interpretation, in oral and written form, of complex laws, rules, regulations, and policies to a full range of contacts.
Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
