Job Description

U.S. Senator Gary C. Peters seeks a highly-motivated and organized Regional Director located in Mid-Michigan. Based in Lansing, MI, this position serves as the Senator’s representative and principal point of contact to stakeholders in this region which includes Branch, Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Jackson, Livingston, and Washtenaw Counties.

As the Senator’s principal point of contact in the region, primary responsibilities include serving as the Senator’s key liaison to government officials, business, non-profit and economic development entities, and community and constituent groups; representing and speaking on behalf of the Senator at meetings and events across the region; proposing activity and staffing the Senator when in the region, and developing and executing a strategic proactive outreach plan covering a broad range of constituencies and stakeholders in the effort to maintain a strong regional presence and ensure federal government accessibility for constituents. This position will also monitor and report to the Senator on developing issues, opinions, and concerns in the region and work with state and DC-based colleagues on recommending solutions to regional problems with a federal connection. The position requires travel throughout the region and includes occasional meetings and events during evenings and weekends. This position will manage one staffer responsible for assisting the Regional Director with geographical areas or constituencies within the region as assigned, drafting correspondence, assisting with office administrative duties, and helping to manage the office intern program.

Qualified candidates for this full-time position will have a strong familiarity and demonstrated ties to the region, experience in community outreach, the ability to work with diverse groups and viewpoints, and an interest in public policy and service. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills are a must in this public-facing position as is the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment with Michigan and DC colleagues. To be successful, one must be self-motivated and able to work independently, but also comfortable working as part of a large, highly-coordinated team.

The office is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We value diversity, equity and inclusion, and candidates who have relevant lived experience and/or are directly impacted are encouraged to apply.
