Recreation Coordinator - STEP

Chileda's mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with cognitive and behavior challenges. Chileda's goal is to help students increase their appropriate social behaviors and develop independent living skills, through an enriched learning environment and individualized behavior programming. We are now accepting applications for a Recreation Coordinator.

Summary:

Chileda's Recreation Department provides leisure and recreational programming suitable for the ages, abilities and interests of our students. The Recreation (Rec) Coordinator is responsible for facilitating therapeutic and structured recreational programming during residential shifts, as well as assisting in planning and preparing for special events and daily activities. The Rec Coordinator for STEP will collaborate with the child's treatment team to establish goals that can generalize leisure skill development to less restrictive environments.

Status Info:

This is a FT hourly position that comes with Chileda's generous benefits plan. Hours are generally Monday through Friday, 1p-9p, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Education: Therapeutic Recreation Degree preferred, or a minimum of 2 years of experince in a related field. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is also preferred.

Job Duties Include:

  • Collaborate with Rec Manager and STEP team to track recreational and leisure goals for students living in the STEP house.
  • Facilitate recreational activities in assigned areas, following programming schedules and guiding staff while teaching students independent leisure skills.
  • Assist Recreational Manager in planning, preparing, and facilitating for special events, clubs, and holiday programming.
  • Work collaboratively with the STEP Treatment Team to assess leisure skills and develop goals (as needed) to increase leisure skills for student's long-term success.
