Job Description
General Summary


Performs in-process and final mechanical and assembly inspection. Responsible for day-to-day activities in support of mechanical and assembly manufacturing departments.


Duties And Responsibilities


  • Counts or estimates quantities of materials, parts, or products received or shipped.
  • Documents quantity, quality, type, weight, test result data, and value of materials or products, in order to maintain shipping, receiving, and production records and files.
  • Transports materials, products, or samples to processing, shipping, or storage areas, manually or using conveyors, or hand trucks.
  • Sorts products or materials into predetermined sequences or groupings for display, packing, shipping, or storage.
  • Examines products or materials, parts, subassemblies, and packaging for damage, defects, or shortages, using specification sheets, gauges, and standard charts.
  • Compares product labels, tags, or tickets, shipping manifests, purchase orders, and bills of lading to verify accuracy of shipment contents, quality specifications, and/or weights.
  • Unloads and unpacks incoming shipments.
  • Computes product totals and charges for shipments.
  • Collects or prepares measurement, weight, or identification labels; and attach them to products.
  • Removes from stock components not meeting quality standards, and notifies supervisors or appropriate departments of discrepancies or shortages.
  • Stores samples of finished products in labeled cartons and records their location.
  • Maintains financial records, such as accounts of daily collections and billings, and records of receipts issued.
  • Weighs or measures materials, equipment, or products to maintain relevant records, using volume meters, scales, rules, and/or calipers.
  • Signals or instructs other workers to weigh, move, or check products.
  • Communicates with customers and vendors to exchange information regarding products, materials, and services.
  • Maintains, monitors, and cleans work areas, such as recycling collection sites, drop boxes, counters and windows, and areas around scale houses.
  • Utilizes measurement tables and conversion charts, using standard formulas.


Education, Work Experience, Certification And/or Licensure


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Industry related Associates degree preferred and/or minimum 1 year quality experience in related field.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities


  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve and prioritize in a fast –paced working environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Practical knowledge of inspection techniques using calibrated measuring and test equipment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of receiving inspection.
  • Strong attention to details, including good visual and color perception.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Lotus Notes.
  • Able to read, interpret blueprints, drawings and specs.
  • Proficient use of basic manufacturing inspection equipment including: calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, plug and thread gages and electronic height gages.
  • Ability to meet ITAR an Export Control Requirements.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player.
  • Practical knowledge of ASME codes and standards.


Physical Requirements


  • Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  • Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
  • Effectively communicate in Business English language.
  • Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  • Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
  • Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
  • Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
  • Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
