Shee Atiká Enterprises, LLC (SAE) and VitaKey are teaming up to present an exciting opportunity to work in a start-up setting using proprietary technology to encapsulate micronutrients and probiotics that improves nutritional value of foods and beverages for better human health. VitaKey was developed in the MIT laboratory of engineer, inventor, scientist and entrepreneur Dr. Robert S. Langer — a founding father of drug delivery and controlled-release technology — to enable precision nutrition and the future of food. We are seeking innovative and motivated scientists and engineers to be part of the SAE team at VitaKey's Durham, NC or Cambridge, MA locations. Role Summary

Responsibilities will involve establishing analytical approaches for nutraceuticals, vitamins, probiotic metabolites, polymers, food additives, and formulations for both raw materials and final formulation products. Responsibilities will also include the working in an analytical laboratory that provides characterization to guide formulations development and customization expertise utilizing a platform technology for encapsulating nutrients and/or probiotics. You will serve as a team member and/or team leader on project teams. Projects will be highly interdisciplinary, at the intersection of engineering, biochemistry, materials science, food science, and nutrition.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • May mentor and direct other scientists
  • Conduct analytical method development and method validations on active ingredients, excipients, and final product
  • Conduct analytical instrument calibration, maintenance, trouble shooting, and laboratory facility upkeep
  • Conduct analytical related technology transfer to CROs and CMOs
  • Develop purification approaches to isolate compounds of interest from raw materials
  • Perform physicochemical characterization utilizing HPLC/UPLC, GC, UV-VIS, FTIR, Particle Size Analyzer, and other analytical equipment
  • Work with external partners for raw materials selection and characterization
  • Design product stability analysis protocols and execute the stability study
  • Work with fellow scientists within the group and with external laboratories, and present ideas and results.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • Candidate must have minimum MS, Ph.D. (preferred) with a minimum of 2+ years of experience in academia or industry in analytical chemistry
  • Entrepreneurial and self-motivated work style
  • Experience working with professionals from formulation science, chemical engineering, bioengineering, pharmaceutical sciences, polymer chemistry, food science or allied disciplines
  • Excellent cross-disciplinary skills in communicating ideas to both scientists and non-scientists
  • Ability to adjust rapidly to changing scientific priorities and technologies
  • Experience generating and interpreting experimental data
  • Candidate must have 2+ years of relevant hands-on technical domain expertise
  • Experience working with proteins, polymers, bacteria, and/or lipids
  • Candidate must have authorization to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship. SAE will not sponsor for this position.

Desired skills/qualifications

  • Startup experience is highly valued, but not required.
  • Record of industry achievement is a plus
