What does the job involve?

Summary: This occupation requires analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating radiographs of materials, parts, and welded parts, and welded parts for compliance with customer and company specifications and quality standards, and for developing techniques and standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Determining if the x-ray is quality radiography.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • When necessary, order supplies.
  • Interpret radiographs by:
  • Approves techniques and makes recommendations for higher quality radiography.
  • Through the evaluation of defects in material and determining the usability of same material.
  • Performs rework, repair and other operations with the work described.
  • Trains others as needed as others such as level I and Trainee.
  • Accepts or rejects material in accordance with the governing specifications.
  • Recognizing the differences between film defects and material defects.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Degree or General Education Degree; or 40 hours radiography class and radiation safety course and or 3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Other Abilities: Must be able to read and interpret blueprints. Must understand the use of check templates. Must understand the various types of welding and welding procedures. Must understand the inverse square law. Must have rudimentary understanding of foundries and castings. Must have a brief understanding of the metallurgy of the materials being examined. Requires good working knowledge of all the specification applicable to the jobs in the department. Must be able to discuss problems pertaining to radiography with customers.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Qualifications:

  • Must obtain and maintain Radiographic Tech Level II Certification (I.A.W. AIA/ NAS 410). Must be able to qualify as Film Processor and as a Technician B. Must be acquainted with major components of an x-ray machine and their functions. Must possess documented education and experience necessary to maintain the level II Certification. Normally requires high school education with related technical courses.

Materials used:

  • Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys in the form of raw stock and replacement parts, radiographic film and various types of metal parts/assemblies.
ITAR Compliance:
  • Access to our facility (and, therefore, employment) is restricted under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/ or Export Administration Regulations (EAR) to U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, U.S. refugees, asylees or temporary residents under amnesty provisions [as defined in 8 USC 1324b(a)(3)] and properly licensed foreign persons.
