Overview


The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.

Responsibilities


Principally responsible for performing work related to radiological and laboratory safety, DOT shipments, hazardous material spill response and clean-up, effective communication with client group, and creating and/or visual inspection of records for the university to assure that only sanctioned activities are carried out and that those activities are performed

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience


  • A minimum of two years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical, chemical, or life science, or equivalent combination of education and scientific training in physical, chemical, or life sciences at the undergraduate level.


Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Also requires excellent computer, interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent time management skills to routinely deal with multiple issues and activities
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written
  • Active membership and participation in an EH&S professional society
  • Previous experience in radiation safety.
  • Knowledge, use and limitation of various sampling equipment
  • Ability, experience, judgement and maturity to carry out all departmental responsibilities and to interact effectively with University community.


Equipment Utilized
  • Must be familiar with use of survey meter, counters, and associated software.


Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear and use respiratory protection and other PPE .
  • Must be able to work in a variety of working conditions, including heights, confined or restricted spaces, temperature extremes, outdoors, etc.


Special Conditions
  • Must be able to pass a background check (criminal, educational and professional histories will be evaluated) along with character determination commensurate with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s regulations for “Unescorted Access” found in 10 CFR Part 37.
