Job description: The Quality Systems Manager will lead and maintain the site Quality Management System ensuring control of all documents, lead the Food Site Safety, HACCP, and Food Defense Teams, and manage customer complaints and closure of CAPAs. Responsible for leading our internal audit programs, and hosting external auditors from regulatory organizations and customers to ensure the site maintains its quality registrations e.g. ISO 9000, FDA, FSSC 22000/22002 with GFSI status, Kosher, Halal, etc, and passes all customer audits. Actively ensure the site meets cGMP, GDP, and IPEC requirements and FDA recommendations for good practices for glycerine, animal feed, and fatty acids as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and lead streamlined management review meetings, customer complaint reviews, and other quality meetings.
  • Tailor quality solutions to the chemical, food, personal care, pharmaceutical, etc. requirements for the area, product, and personnel.
  • Determine and monitor quality KPIs to align with site and global monitoring programs, and provide monthly and annual metrics, tracking trends and working with operations and the business to improve quality.
  • Assist all departments to ensure quality documents are maintained, and quality actions are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Carry out all activities in a safe and professional manner following company procedures to ensure that all work is properly done and documented.
  • Assist Sales/ Marketing/ Technical Service to retain existing business or obtain new business by providing the necessary quality, technical, and regulatory knowledge and assistance both for the products and their applications in the market. This can include questionnaires, regulatory matters, specifications, and other documentation.
  • Run the customer complaint system, properly, and promptly answer customers’ issues, and work with departments to complete root cause and corrective/ preventive actions to meet business goals within the established due date.
  • Be proactive in quality initiatives and engage all departments.
  • Actively participate in various quality assurance and quality control activities on the site, e.g. in terms of documentation, product monitoring, and quarterly quality monitoring of products so that quality and regulatory standards are maintained.
  • Make input to quality control to help achieve and maintain best practices and high standards.
  • Lead and actively participate in the site’s internal auditor program for ISO 9000 Quality, FSSC 22000 Food Safety, and Q7 so it meets all quality and customer standards. Provide coaching as needed for auditors and new auditors.
  • Train and develop personnel at the site on cGMP requirements, GDP, Food Safety, Root Cause Analysis, internal audits, and other quality topics for new personnel, recurring training, or quality initiatives. Ensure site is educated and aware of the requirements and expectations for maintaining regulatory and customer compliance.
Qualifications
  • Prefer knowledge of FSCC 22000, Food Safety, Food Defense, HACCP, and ICH Q7.
  • Good verbal communication skills and strong ability to write technical reports or documents for internal and external use.
  • Microsoft Office, e-QMS systems, LIMS, and SQC/SPC statistical software.
  • BS degree in chemistry/ food science/ pharma or related subject with four or more years working in a quality environment involving quality systems and a knowledge of quality assurance and quality control.
  • Quality auditing experience.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9000.
  • Good leadership and interpersonal skills to work with those in the group, in the production and operations teams, internal & external auditors, and with outside customers and suppliers so that goals can be met.
