Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Control Supervisor to join our Ashland Specialty Ingredients business at our Parlin, NJ facility. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Quality function. This position will report to the Plant Manager.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide Sales, Customer Service, and Business Management support by answering and assisting with customer requests and inquiries.
  • Implement the Quality Management System
  • Establishes QA/QC policies and standards for product assessment, technical service, vendors evaluations, and off-shore QA/QC; oversees QA/QC team and vendors to implement and enforce corporate QA/QC policies.
  • Ensures product quality specifications are in compliance with corporate/customers' standards and requirements.
  • Lead root cause investigations into any deviations
  • Provide support to production through performing or participating in root cause investigations, and by pulling and trending historical data
  • Ensure all lab equipment is functioning properly; develop strategic plans for equipment upgrades and improvements
  • Conduct internal ISO 9001 Audits and support corporate and external ISO 9001 audits
  • Track Quality KPIs and develop continuous improvement plans consistent with the company’s Lean Manufacturing process
  • Participating in process improvements and the implementation of new quality systems
  • Ensure control charts and process capability data is up to date and take action as needed
  • Participates or leads Quality Risk Assessments
  • Perform SAP inventory movements as needed
  • Provide customer support and communication on any quality concerns; address customer complaints in a timely manner
  • Initiate out-of-spec investigations where appropriate
  • Support New Product Introductions by developing testing plans
  • Quality Batch Record Review approver
  • Monitor plant inventory status and shelf-life concerns

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or another technical field.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite, with strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to read, interpret, and report data.
  • Knowledgeable in quality assurance systems, quality control procedures, chemical plant processes, Lean Manufacturing, and ISO 9001.
  • 3-5 years experience in a quality role, supervisory level preferred

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
  • Supervisory experience in a union environment
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Quality Risk Management and Management of Change processes
  • Experience with SAP and LIMS or equivalent data management systems
  • Experience in leading and organizing internal ISO 9001 audits
