QUALITY ASSURANCE TECHNICIAN

Lebanon Meat Plant – Lebanon, IN

Full Time / Non-Exempt Position

Typical Hours 6:00am - 2:30pm - 1st Shift

Responsible for performing the quality assurance inspections and laboratory analyses required by White Castle System, Inc. to satisfy White Castle, USDA, HACCP, SSOP’s and GMP’s. This position requires inspections of facilities, raw materials, products and microbiological and chemical analyses of meats with the ability to halt production should product integrity be at stake.

What we are looking for:

• Must have good basic math skills, be able to write legibly, communicate effectively with others and be able to follow instructions given by the Quality Assurance Supervisor.
• Approximately two years of college with science-related courses in chemistry and/or biology (associate degree preferred), or three years of previous quality assurance experience in the food industry;
• Must have knowledge of proper procedures for handling chemicals and laboratory safety procedures;

What you will do:

• Perform preoperational and operational inspections of plant equipment and facilities and inspections of exterior facilities;
• Monitor incoming and outgoing shipments of product;
• Document findings in accordance with plant programs.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization within the Quality Assurance laboratories and keep supplies readily available for production workers;
• Inspect and analyze meat raw materials and finished products using physical (organoleptic), chemical and microbiological methods;
• Determine blend size, collect samples and analyze blends for fat percentage;

Physical Requirements:

• Occasional lifting of 20 lb. boxes, bending, stooping, twisting and climbing stairs is necessary.

REQUIREMENTS

• Have adequate knowledge of safe lifting procedures, “lockout/tagout” procedures, and proper safety procedures.
• Communication skills and the ability to work well with others and U.S.D.A Inspectors are a must.
• Must be able to work well with co-workers in a physically close environment.
• Must be able to physically lift 25 pounds; bending, turning, twisting and climbing will be required.
• Must wear all other safety gear, i.e. eye & ear protection, as deemed necessary.
• A minimum of 2 years of college chemistry and/or biology is required or three years of previous quality assurance experience in the food industry.
• Familiar with USDA regulations and directives and the HACCP, SSOP, GMP and SOP programs preferred.
• Have knowledge of proper procedures for handling chemicals and laboratory safety procedures.
