Summary
As a Quality Control Technician in the Microbiology Lab, you will be a key member of the Quality Control team responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of our products. You will perform various microbiological tests, analyses, and inspections to maintain the highest standards of product quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in the investigation of out-of-specification (OOS) results, deviations, and non-conformances, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Assist in the validation of microbiological test methods and participate in method transfers and method verifications.
  • Perform endotoxin testing, microbial limit testing, bioburden testing, and other microbiological assays as required.
  • Support environmental monitoring programs by sampling and testing cleanrooms and controlled areas for microbial contamination.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Perform routine microbiological testing on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and environmental samples following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and compendial methods.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all testing procedures, results, and observations in laboratory notebooks and electronic databases.
  • Conduct microbial identification and enumeration using techniques such as plate counting, membrane filtration, PCR, MPN, and microscopic examination.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and other relevant regulations.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to microbiological testing and quality control.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Microbiology Lab and collaborate with other quality and production teams.
  • Monitor and maintain the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.

Work Environment
The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate. Field conditions vary. Exposed to various raw materials, including allergens (i.e., milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nut, peanuts, wheat, soy).
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, Biology, or a related scientific field.
Experience
  • Strong understanding of microbiological testing techniques, compendial methods, and aseptic techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze microbiological data accurately and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with microbial identification systems and microbial growth media preparation.
  • Previous experience working in a microbiology lab within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or similar regulated industry.
Skills/ Abilities
  • Flexibility/ adaptability/ multi-tasking
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with document management systems and software.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with electronic document management systems (EDMS) is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude toward process improvement.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly require to talk, hear and grasp items. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, strong fumes, loud noises, and occasionally extreme temperatures
The employee must frequently grasp, lift and/or move items 10 pounds and occasionally grasp, lift and/or move items 20lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Additional Information
The Salary Range for this position at Lief Labs is $25.64 hourly (USD). Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, skills, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, wellness benefits, education reimbursement program, and PTO. This position is bonus eligible.
