The base hourly rate for this position is $23.67
Summary
Responsible for working at professional level and complying with the Quality Manager, under direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor. Working from general instructions from the plant management team, and all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection. This role will support the plant in achieving quality goals via daily audits, tests and checks of raw materials, in process material and final products. Great communication, self-motivated, and goal orientated are essential to success in this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for operating in conformance with the ISO certification held by the Phenix City facility.
  • Wears all personal protective equipment as required by management, including but not limited to all or some of the following; protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask or respirator.
  • Maintain and update Quality program as needed
  • Organize, compile and submit regulatory or compliance reports as required
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Provide technical and root cause problem solving support
  • Dimensional, density, squareness, L.O.I., shot content, moisture, wall thickness/concentricity, length (id, od, split saw cut off), Binder solids, binder PH, specific gravity, raw material analysis, testing as required by ASTM standards, trial products/materials
  • Maintain calibration records as required
  • Issue COA’s as required
  • Manufacturing specification database gatekeeper
  • Investigate and initiate formal plant communications regarding customer complaints
  • Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements
  • Complete and document material and process tests (at established frequencies) such as but not limited to:
    • Dimensional, density, squareness, L.O.I., shot content, moisture, wall thickness/concentricity, length (id, od, split saw cut off), Binder solids, binder PH, specific gravity, raw material analysis, testing as required by ASTM standards, trial products/materials
  • Collect, document and establish baseline process data
  • Prepare and ship sample packages
  • Develop and implement standard work
  • Interface with and act as plant liaison, maintain all required records for quality/certifying organizations
  • Conduct trials, document and compile reports summarizing results
  • Performs other duties as directed.
  • Conduct quality and measurement methods training for employees

Education and/or Experience and Skills
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 2-4 years’ experience or an associate degree
  • Computer skills are essential (MS Office).
  • Solid interpersonal skills
  • Solid use of trial design and implementation
  • Understanding of statistical tools and concepts
  • Must have strong facilitation skills
  • Solid understanding of all aspects of process and production
  • Ability to perform data analysis
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand, walk and use tools continually, as well as frequently reach and climb stairs. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and communicate accurately with coworkers. . The employee must frequently, lift, push or pull 25 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Work Environment
This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment. The job requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment. The environment is not climate controlled and employees must be able to work in environments that may be extremely hot and humid or cold depending upon the operation and the season. Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty, and uneven. Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes. Some working areas contain the presence of airborne particles which can irritate the skin or eyes. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment which includes steel toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection and in certain areas may be required to where dust masks, gloves, respirators, or head protection. Must be able to work shift work and be able to come in for special projects as needed.
