Job Description
Job Summary:
The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager owns and drives the QA process to ensure that the AssetWorks’ product releases meet all technical, functional, and business requirements. This person will oversee a team of quality assurance analysts and engineers who work on a cross-functional team that includes Product Management, Engineering, QA, Documentation, and Support. They will ensure that their team members are able to design and execute comprehensive product testing for our comprehensive product suites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Directly manage test estimates and scheduling and assignment of the work of the team to meet release schedules.
  • Conduct test case reviews and analysis of test completion. Recommend improvement the test case development to ensure broader coverage and impact.
  • Define and manage testing phases as required for product releases, including test planning, test development, functional testing, item-specific testing, regression testing, and release packaging and testing.
  • Own communication of quality policies across departments, including hosting meetings to communicate the quality progress and release schedule
  • Review and understand product and business requirements
  • Working with direct reports to ensure their goals are met, including quality, productivity, training goals and personal improvement/growth goal
  • Oversee all planning and analysis for End of Life and Certification policies and notices for the software.
  • Setting both group and individual goals annually and writing and performing staff reviews monthly.
  • Developing and implementing quality assurance policies and procedures that meet industry standards and regulatory requirements for software development.
  • Implement testing strategy, and ensure the team’s execution of strategy to defined metrics. Recommend improvement the strategy and approach to impact quality and timeliness.
  • Document release status and completeness of the QA process in the defect tracking system
  • Creating and managing a backlog of work
  • Conducting one-on-one meetings with direct reports, including discussions of their product/technical questions and personal growth
  • Some travel required, estimated to be less than 10%
  • Promote a “shift-left” testing approach.
  • Perform analysis and communicate any quality concerns to other departments within the organization.
  • Verify the product release package and oversee all aspects of the release process,
  • Collaborating with software development teams to ensure that software products are designed and developed with quality in mind.
  • Analyze and investigate outside product complaints or reported quality issues to ensure closure in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Directly manage a staff of QA engineers and analysts throughout test design, planning, execution and product release that includes but is not limited to:
    • Creating and managing a backlog of work
    • Conducting one-on-one meetings with direct reports, including discussions of their product/technical questions and personal growth

Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science or other related area of expertise.
The position requires:
  • Working knowledge of at least one modern front-end language such as JavaScript, CSS, HTML5, Objective-C, Android, PHP, ASP.net, etc. (Preferred)
  • Solid experience w QA test management tools such as TestRail, HP ALM, or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, tools, and best practices
  • Working knowledge of at least one modern systems language such as C# (preferred), C++, Java, Ruby, etc.
  • Strong experience creating test strategies, test estimates, and capacity planning.
  • At least 10 years of software testing experience, including prior experience in the management of a team of at least five direct reports
  • Prior experience with performance and load testing.
  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies, Waterfall, AGILE
  • Passion for technology
  • 3-5 years of experience managing both manual and automated testing.
  • Experience with source control (Git/GitHub)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong experience with QA metrics to track test coverage and defect status.
  • Effective listening, communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills
  • Strong time management and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Understanding of gitflow and how it ties into release management.
  • Comfortable working on multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, both as an individual and as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of client-server / n-tier applications - Oracle, MSSQL, MYSQL
