Purchasing Specialist

Cordova, TN

Full time – Office/Hybrid




The Purchasing Specialist primary function is to interface with internal stakeholders as well as external suppliers in acquiring needed materials, supplies and other relevant items for use in manufacturing and sales. This position will manage the day-to-day supplier relationship that cover a wide variety of simple and complex requirements of products and/or services, as well as support Operations / Product Management on assuring finished goods supply to support distribution of OEM product. This includes but not limited to item maintenance and inventory management, cost and pricing maintenance, including interfacing with the vendor to assure timely supply and quality of parts.



What you'll be doing



  • Obtain price quotes, order quantity and delivery schedule with suppliers to provide the best pricing and delivery requirements for the company, including follow-up.
  • Maintain adequate inventory, scheduling and receiving shipments of material as well as finished product in conjunction with Planning.
  • Holds oneself and others accountable to conduct business in a manner compliant with Bioventus’ Code of Compliance and Ethics, policies and procedures and internal controls applicable to their role.
  • Ensure pricing is accurate and monitor purchase order price variances and communicate changes in pricing to management.
  • Review open order report daily and expedite orders to ensure delivery requirements are met.
  • Generate purchase orders for raw materials and other parts in accordance with company procedures.
  • Track orders as well as forecast future supply needs based on the current Sales forecast, including demand planning by assessing current orders and forecast future demand in order to assure adequate inventory on hand; respond to changes in demand and solving any supply chain problems that arise.
  • Monitor supplier performance (Supply, Delivery and Quality); communicate with suppliers to maintain consistent order volume or order mix.
  • Provide vendors with current specifications, drawings and any revision changes for parts ordered.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Communicate delivery information to requestor and facility supply chain planning to ensure that materials come in on time and in the event of problems, trace shipments and follow-up undelivered materials.



What you’ll bring to the table



  • Experience in planning and buying for manufacturing operations.
  • 5+ years’ experience in supply chain, demand planning and/or purchasing.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, leadership, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments to meet customer needs, both internal and external, as well as seek input to assure operational excellence.
  • Knowledge and understanding of inventory management, receiving, work order fulfillment.
  • Time management and project management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management to executive level personnel.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and analytics tools; Netsuite and SAP experience a plus.
