Public Safety Security Officer - 3Rd Shift

The University of Iowa Campus Safety is seeking a night shift Security Officer to primarily operate the NITE RIDE shuttle service. Additionally, this position is responsible for checking, locking/unlocking campus buildings per assigned routes/schedules, reporting discrepancies, hazards and unauthorized use, notifying police division as needed, using portable radio communication, and traversing campus in all weather conditions.

This position is performed fully on campus.

Duties To Include

• Locks/unlocks doors based on schedules and requests.
• Use of alarm systems and video surveillance cameras.
• Use of portable radio communication, body cameras, and departmental vehicles.
• Operates/Coordinates nightly NITE RIDE shuttle service – assesses and responds to calls, schedules pick-ups and drop-offs and drives riders to and from destinations as needed.
• Traversing buildings inside and outdoors in all weather conditions
• Reporting discrepancies and hazards and notifying police as needed.
• Assist/direct staff, students, and visitors.

Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday: 9:30PM-5:30AM

Overtime opportunities available for special events and athletic events as well as additional department needs.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

• One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and one year of experience in security and safety, or
• Two years’ experience in security and safety, or
• Two years of post-high school education related to security and safety.
• Ability to obtain Certified Protection Officer certification from the International Foundation of Protection Officers within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment.
• Possession of valid driver's license.

Special Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s license is required and ability to meet and maintain UI Driving Policy.

Desirable Qualifications

• Demonstrated customer service experience.
• Effective communication skills, oral and written, to interact with people from various and diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor with the public that fosters good relations.
