Why does the job exist?
This position will work with the Tuberculosis (TB) public health nurses with the SW Region to assist the nurses with client-related tasks such a directly observed therapy (DOT), case management, home visiting, incentive support, patient advocacy, collection of specimens for laboratory analysis. This position will serve primarily as a TB outreach worker. Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
How does it get done?
- Use health promotion skills to act as TB resource for the community.
- Working with Tuberculosis (TB) nurses and physicians in the Southwest Region to assure that clients receive quality services in a respectful environment and complete their prescribed treatment.
- Collaborating with co-workers in the TB and Public Health programs throughout the Southwest Region.
- Work with other TB staff to promote an effective work environment and strive for continuous improvement of TB services.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Public Health or Education and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPPA) and successful completion of Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act (CLIA) courses are required within sixty (60) days of employment.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse population, many who do not speak the English language. Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. Travel to satellite offices, meetings, training sessions, and special events with the occasional overnight stay is required.
