Job Description
The psychologist in this position is expected to function as professionally-responsible mental health care provider to UNL students by providing diagnostic services, treatment, consultation, and education. Facilitating individual, group, and relationship counseling sessions, the psychologist will engage student clients to establish therapeutic relationships that address the emotional, educational, and developmental needs of students. Providing initial evaluations and crisis intervention services are essential to the position. This work requires the psychologist to perform routine case records management, consultation with professional colleagues, correspondence with and on behalf of clients, and interactions with other professionals in the University Health Center and across campus. Minimum Required Qualifications
PhD or PsyD in Psychology or related discipline from an approved training program (or equivalent) along with one year of an APA doctoral internship required. Experience in a multidisciplinary psychological setting. Eligibility for licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Nebraska (must meet the requirements for sitting for the national exam for licensure) within two (2) years of hire. Must have ability to form effective therapeutic relationships with students. Coursework and experience in provision of supervision is required as the person filling this position will contribute to the CAPS supervisory team and to the training of doctoral interns. Demonstrated expertise working with underrepresented and first generation students necessary. Sensitivity, knowledge and effectiveness in working with a diverse student population, including ethnic minorities, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, and other under-represented groups essential. Ability to consult and present educational programs related to educational, developmental , and mental health issues required. Ability to consult and present educational programs related to educational, developmental, and mental health issues, especially regarding underrepresented student concerns necessary. Considerable knowledge of personality theory, psychopathology, normal and abnormal development, techniques of psychotherapy and factors relating to individual and social psychopathology required. Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary mental health team, and with other health professionals, University faculty and staff, and the general public essential. Knowledge of and experience with psychological assessment instruments required. Must have knowledge of referral sources and indications for appropriate referral.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a comprehensive counseling center at a college or university is helpful. Exposure to stepped care and short-term models of counseling are helpful. Experience working with traditionally underserved student groups including all students of color on campus and first generation students. Experience in creating liaison relationships with traditionally underserved student groups and developing innovative programming to these student groups preferred. Multicultural knowledge and experience is highly valued. An ability and willingness to work evening hours is desirable. If agreeable, an alternative work schedule could be arranged.
