If so, we have a great opportunity for you! Volvo Group is seeking a Prototype Buyer to join our Prototype Purchasing team in Greensboro, NC.
Who We Are
Our team, Prototype Purchasing, is a part of the Complete Vehicle function for Volvo group Trucks Technology North America. At Complete Vehicle we contribute to deliver the right Products & Services to brand customers according to product segmentation and brand positioning. We are a team of specialized functions with high focus on cooperation to get a holistic view of the entire truck and bring hands-on truck experience into the projects. We are close to end customers to understand their needs and behaviors and bring users perspective into the projects.
What You Will be Doing
As the Prototype Buyer, you will procure parts needed to build prototype trucks in the workshop. Your work will support verification and validation of vehicle and powertrain products. In this role you will work in close cooperation with prototype suppliers, product development, and production purchasing.
Responsibilities:
  • Communicate priorities and goals to suppliers.
  • Support achievement of Prototype Operations Key Performance Indicators (KPI) related to project lead time.
  • Effectively manage assigned commodities in support of GTT Prototype Operations.
  • Resolve quality, delivery, and payment issues with suppliers.
  • Research and locate suppliers for prototype materials with heavy emphasis on accuracy, cost, and timing.
  • Procurement of Prototype material from existing Volvo and potential “rapid prototyping” suppliers in compliance with the Volvo authorization directives.
  • Aggressive and diligent follow-up of requisitions, P.O.’s, and ultimately the delivery of parts.
  • Participate in quality, cost, and time saving processes & initiatives directed at optimizing prototype builds and testing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise within the product areas assigned, in terms of supplier processes, capabilities, technical part/tool requirements, and technology usage.
  • Provide appropriate purchasing support to internal and external customers (ex. GTT sites in Australia, Sweden, France, and Brazil, GTO NRV, and LVO).
  • Interpret design documentation.

Who You Are
You are a technical professional with a strong understanding of purchasing, negotiations and business. You enjoy utilizing your communication skills to develop relationships with cross-functional groups as well as suppliers. You drive to deliver results and your ability to do so in a clear, structured fashion are valuable traits for this role.
Requirements:
  • 3-5+ years of experience in buying, supplier quality, or a function
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field
