Job Description
We are seeking a Proton Clinical Dosimetrist who will be working at the JHU proton center would understand the characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology and proton therapy treatment. They respond to the unique needs of pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients as the need arises.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and implement proton therapy treatment plans; know and understand the correct usage of immobilization devices, have an understanding of field arrangements and other treatment parameters; design and construct beam modifying devices for optimal dose delivery; and calculate doses for therapeutic cancer treatments.
Teach and demonstrate principles of treatment planning, treatment planning systems, and departmental policies and procedures to junior staff, post-doctoral fellows, and others as directed.
Prepare and give talks/lectures/case presentations and participates in departmental staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
Attend professional association/society workshops and lectures to further develop professional skills. Assist other dosimetrists or radiotherapy physicists in the testing of new procedures and treatment techniques. Including learning experiences that stretch and build capabilities by requesting new assignments (i.e., testing computer software, and evaluating new commercial products).
Understands the role and promotes teamwork in serving as a resource and mentor.
  • Johns Hopkins Medicine is committed to a tripartite mission of Patient Care, Research and Education. The department provides full radiation treatment services at 5 campuses in the Baltimore and Washington D.C region. The Washington D.C. region includes a 3 Hitachi proton gantries, 4 Elekta linacs, 1 Flexitron HDR afterloader system with Raystation and Oncentra treatment planning systems in use with Velocity for image fusion.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree.
Graduate of a Medical Dosimetry JRCERT accredited program.
Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) or board eligible.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with treatment planning in Ray Station, for various treatment modalities, including 3DCRT, IMRT, and proton.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
