Compensation Range: $35 - 45 per hour

We are looking for a detail-oriented Proofreader for our client in the healthcare space. As a Proofreader you will ensure that all materials reflect the highest level of quality, readability and alignment with brand tone and voice standards. This role is responsible for error-free quality, consistent and accurate materials.
The ideal candidate must exhibit proficient editing/proofreading skills, deadline sensitivity, autonomy and teamwork in completing assigned projects and tasks. In addition, a basic knowledge of scientific messaging is needed to ensure final materials are accurate, clear, consistent, and impactful.
Responsibilities:

  • Accuracy of spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax and context.
  • Suggest changes, verify links, sources and correct grammar and punctuation to prepare the work for client presentation and publication.
  • Correct usage and presentation of company and brand trademarks and logos.
  • Ensure that graphics and illustrations are correctly captioned and referred to in the text.
  • Leverage research and data to inform execution.
  • Embrace the notion every project is an opportunity to make an impact.
  • Consistency and accuracy of layout components (spacing, capitalization, etc.).
  • Maintain strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Compliance with brand guidelines.
  • Deliver completed and error-free copy.
  • Create and update proofreading best practices and consultation guides.
  • Provide proofreading and editorial perspective to deliver copy that meets project specifications.
  • Provide proofreading signoff on projects at final release to ensure accuracy.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with manager and in-house agency staff.
  • Proof content, impose consistent styles and reword or rewrite work as needed to ensure perfect execution in all media and platforms.
  • Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures and workflows.
  • Follow a style checklist to ensure consistency in trademarks, hyphenation, capitalization, formatting of references, etc.
  • Accuracy of references, web links/addresses, phone numbers and other data.
  • Read and comment as needed to ensure:
    • Accuracy of spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax and context.
    • Accuracy of references, web links/addresses, phone numbers and other data.
    • Compliance with brand guidelines.
    • Correct usage and presentation of company and brand trademarks and logos.
    • Consistency and accuracy of layout components (spacing, capitalization, etc.).
    • Overall continuity, consistency, clarity and presentation.
  • Ensure consistent voice and tone.
  • Ensure all client, legal and compliance annotations are correctly interpreted and addressed.
  • Collaborate with project management team as needed for specific project objectives.
  • Validate copy meets legal guidelines.
  • Ensure brand messaging guidelines and directives are met.
  • Overall continuity, consistency, clarity and presentation.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to project manage/traffic personal workload with minimal supervision.
  • Adept at embracing and consistently deploying brand voice and tone
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat or equivalent.
  • Ability to operate calmly and effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Understanding of editing applications in multichannel marketing applications.
  • Highly developed emotional intelligence and culture building skills.
  • Excellent eye for design consistency.
  • Citations (2 years of experience is preferred)
  • Team player with expert relationship-building skills.
  • Editing (2 years of experience is preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in English or journalism.
  • Proficiency in AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style and standard proofreading marks.
  • Highly organized and effective planner.
  • Outstanding quality control practices.
  • Skills:
    • Writing (2 years of experience is preferred)
    • Editing (2 years of experience is preferred)
    • Annotations (2 years of experience is preferred)
    • Citations (2 years of experience is preferred)
  • Writing (2 years of experience is preferred)
  • Minimum of two years of professional-level copy editor/proofreading experience.
  • Ability to state opinions clearly and verbally describe purpose of edits.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Directly related external or in-house agency experience.
