Summary
This position is responsible for integrating all aspects of product design, manufacturing, delivery and customer support.

Essential Functions
  • Ensures that job schedules are adhered to and achieved by all necessary personnel.
  • Identification of local sourcing possibilities together with Purchasing department.
  • Strong communication with the customer during the order process.
  • Planning and establishing project schedules and follow-up on actual performance against estimates
  • Produce required documentation, such as purchase requisitions, field service requests and equipment proposals.
  • Review of customer quotes for technical and commercial feasibility prior to becoming an order.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Conducts project kick-off meetings and ongoing reviews with Germany if necessary, other vendors and the customer during the order process.
  • Timely execution of the project as well as achieving forecasted P&L results.
  • Advises drafters and detailers in the preparation of accurate, clear and complete drawings from rough or detailed engineering sketches.
  • May be required to visit specific locations at request of customer or as a technical aid to the Field Service staff or Sales force.
  • Determines work procedures and assignments for project team personnel in conjunction with department manager.
  • Oversees a variety of engineering functions, i.e., planning and designing of products, machines, other mechanically functioning equipment and mechanical industrial processes, as well as installation, operation, production and maintenance of same equipment.
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, and written/verbal orders as it relates to specific customer requirements.
  • Negotiate equipment and services purchases with vendors and other suppliers
  • Proper specification of the machine and its components /involvement in vendors selection
  • Tracks and reviews performance and attainment of goals, budget and cost adherence, as well as conformance to company policy and guidelines.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment in our Florence, KY or Brighton, MI facility. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines which create low-moderate noise.

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness required.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a salaried, exempt-level, full-time position with standard working days/hours of Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with overtime as necessary to complete required tasks. Actual working hours may vary.

Travel
Travel is moderate, but is primarily local and during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected. Travel to Germany or other international locations possible for training/conferences. Anticipated travel is 25-35%.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field and 3-5 years’ related experience leading projects in a manufacturing operation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude with creative ability to generate design solutions for various machine components.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience working with highly technical, engineered capital equipment projects.
  • SAP experience a strong plus.
