Job Description

Chevron is accepting online applications for the Project Facilities Engineer position through August 23rd, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. (PDT).

Chevron’s San Joaquin Valley Business Unit (SJVBU) is a vital player in Chevron’s Upstream business and is the largest onshore producer of oil & gas in California, producing from six assets using both steam and waterflood recovery methods. SJVBU is a benchmark leader among peers and continues to improve margins through in-field development, optimization, and innovation. SJVBU also serves as a technology incubator for the corporation’s lower carbon projects, pioneering Chevron’s future for cleaner energy.

This position will provide project engineer support for Chevron’s heavy oil facilities within the San Joaquin Valley. The Project Engineer provides general engineering and project management support for Chevron’s heavy oil facilities within the San Joaquin Valley and assures that deliverables are completed safely, timely, cost effectively, and are of desired quality.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

The Project Facilities Engineer (FE) is responsible for general engineering and project management support for Chevron’s heavy oil facilities within SJVBU. The Project FE will support base operations and development by applying engineering skills and technical acumen to achieve safe, cost-effective solutions in a brownfield environment.

The Project FE performs both basic, in-house engineering and assures technical quality of engineering contractors’ deliverables. This position actively partners with process engineers, operations, subsurface development, and execution teams to ensure that planning and execution efforts meet business objectives. In addition, the Project FE is responsible for ensuring projects align with Chevron’s operational excellence (OE) processes, Chevron engineering standards, and applicable industry codes & regulations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to incident-free operations and safe work practices, as well as performing work in a safe and environmentally protective manner.
  • Demonstrated quick learning approach and ability to hold oneself accountable for results.
  • Experience in production operations facilities design work, identifying and executing facilities optimization efforts, and technical assurance design reviews.
  • Demonstrated strength in project management fundamentals.
  • Education: BS in Engineering degree.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in planning and executing brownfield projects in a heavy oil operation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated understanding of OE principles including process safety, management of change, process hazard analysis, managing safe work practices, and prevention of serious injuries and fatalities.
  • Ability to understand technical risk, develop risk-based solutions, and effectively convey business impact to all levels of the organization (e.g. from front-line employee to senior leadership).
  • Ability to build trust and establish collaborative relationships with peers and stakeholders to support working in a “one team” culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to scope and deliver projects with a minimum functional objective (MFO) approach to maximize value and eliminate non-value-added work.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in planning and executing brownfield projects in a heavy oil operation.

Relocation Options:

Relocation will not be considered.

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $112,200 – $221,900. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
