Job Description
Overview:
GD-OTS is looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our Lincoln, NE organization. We are expanding rapidly and looking for motivated and creative individuals who want to help support and shape this organization as we grow. This position will report to our Senior Manager of Programs or a Program Manager. Will work with minimal supervision, lead a technical team to develop and deliver composite components in support of program objectives. Additional responsibilities will include; proposal support, as well as budget and schedule preparation and tracking.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems provides reliable and affordable composite products to the defense and commercial aerospace markets. With more than 50 years of expertise, General Dynamics designs, develops, manufactures and tests a full range of composite missile and space structures, including rocket motors, pressure vessels, launch tubes and fuel tanks.
Major Position Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with functional management (Engineering, Contracts, Operations, Quality, etc) to communicate project needs, staffing requirements, and schedule and budget of a project.
  • Provide direction in problem investigations and resolution across functional areas.
  • Serve as Engineering interface to Program Office, to Senior leadership, and to Customer technical staff and Management.
  • Monitor technical projects for progress and scope; complete SOW tasks while avoiding unplanned work or “scope creep”.
  • Support Program Management in preparing or reviewing technical proposals and in preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Stay abreast of cutting edge technology and develop plans to affect future opportunities through internal research and development and customer relationships.
  • Prepare status reports and presentations.
  • Provide innovative solutions to real world engineering problems, including; challenges with composite materials design, manufacture and tooling.
  • Support program tracking / reporting; develop plans and work-around plans.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Strong communication, leadership, and team building skills, with the ability to lead a cross-functional team of engineers.
  • Strong base understanding of engineering disciplines and knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
  • General technical understanding of project management, from requirements analysis to product verification.
  • Ability to lead supply chain activities, including; statement of work and material specification generation and management of procurement activities for highly engineered products.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace specs and standards.
  • Ability to create and track project plans in Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrated competence in technical writing of plans, reports, and proposals.
Bachelor's Degree in an applicable engineering technical or science discipline required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a Project Engineering role (preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience in technical leadership roles (preferred)
Position may be filled at level higher or lower based on applicant experience
