Position: Project Engineer

Location: Middlefield, CT 06455

Duration: 6 Months

Pay-Rate: $45.00

Description:

  • Multi-tasking: Manage multiple projects at a time, in different phases of execution… Communicate (daily?) with Marketing Planning, Procurement, and Manufacturing on the status of outstanding action items to keep moving forward on schedule.
  • Internally manufactured parts: Work with Operations to work out priorities, new procedures (where needed), required tooling, etc. Could be for Instruments Mfg. or Optics Mfg. or Richmond…
  • Planning: Ability to plan out a project schedule using Microsoft Project (e.g. Gantt charts) to prepare milestones, estimate completion dates, and manage resources. Utilize ERP systems to generate demand, track material, manage costs…
  • 40-hours per week required. Limited opportunities for remote work, and only upon approval on a case-by-case basis.
  • Report progress at weekly meetings, and communicate progress (achievements, obstacles, risks) to upper management.
  • Lead a team of multi-disciplinary engineers (mechanical, electrical, optical, software), coordinating their work with an emphasis on maintaining schedule and to a lesser extent, cost. Assist with documentation, communication, and other administrative tasks when possible. Call meetings to initiate important discussions between different departments when necessary, including assignment and tracking of action items with due dates.
  • Create/Review assembly BOMs: understand drawing structure, release process, ECO process. Analyze existing product structures for cost, and especially lead-time (identifying long-lead items for early procurement).
  • Operations support: Work with Manufacturing during assembly/test to keep project on schedule, anticipate bottlenecks and shortages, and train technicians on fabrication when needed. Make decisions on non-conformances and defects (e.g. scrap, rework, etc.) and coordinate repairs when needed
  • Purchasing material: Request quotes from suppliers for cost and lead-time on new or older items, help identify new or alternate suppliers for parts based on commodity-code, work with Procurement to address issues with fabrication, quality, delivery, etc.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is a must (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
