Description


The Atlantic Council seeks a talented, motivated, and organized individual for a dynamic position as a Project Assistant within the Caribbean Initiative of its Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center. The selected candidate will be deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of and provide support to the Center’s Caribbean programming, including the planning and production of public/private convenings and events, and supporting on research and writing projects. In addition, the selected candidate will support the day-to-day administrative needs of the Caribbean Initiative and have the opportunity to be involved in the conceptualization and implementation of other projects across the Center. While this position will focus primarily on the Caribbean, the selected candidate will also dedicate some of their time to other Latin America issues and programming.


This position requires a proven ability to communicate effectively in English, superior ability to multitask, excellent administrative skills, strong attention to detail, a collaborative disposition, a positive attitude, and knowledge of diplomatic and governmental protocols. The ideal candidate will possess excellent project and time management, event planning skills, and a strong record of supporting programs and events. S/he will possess a comprehensive understanding of political, economic, and social issues in the Caribbean and an interest in US foreign policy toward the region. This position is for a six-month initial period with the possibility of extension.


This position is based in our Washington, DC headquarters on a hybrid schedule.


Responsibilities


  • Assist with ongoing projects, including planning events; and conducting research, writing, and editing documents, including memos, talking points and activity summaries.
  • Help coordinate onsite, offsite, and virtual events, including coordinating VIP arrivals and departures, guest management, and AV coordination.
  • Help coordinate engagement with external stakeholders in multilateral organizations, financial institutions, government, and the private sector, in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe.
  • Produce relevant readouts and summaries of meetings both for internal record keeping and external knowledge sharing.
  • Provide research, administrative, and logistical assistance to lines of programming within the Center with a focus on the Caribbean Initiative.


Qualifications


  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in monitoring and evaluation of program activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in international affairs, political economy, public policy, communications, public affairs, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational, logistical, and administrative skills.
  • Superior writing, communication, and analytic skills; Spanish is a plus.
  • Approximately 1-2 years relevant work experience.
  • Proven track record in supporting multiple projects simultaneously and a demonstrated ability to work efficiently and collaboratively.
  • Proven knowledge of political, economic, and social issues in the Caribbean.
