The Program Manager advances the Darden School mission of inspiring purpose-driven, innovative leaders who will change the world. This position supports the implementation of strategic initiatives to further the school’s presence and programming across Batten’s three primary focus areas of entrepreneurship, technology and thought leadership; and related topical areas such as sustainability, AI, and social innovation.

The Program Manager helps drive the planning and execution of every major endeavor of the Batten Institute, from student-facing events and programs to faculty and alumni engagement. This position plays a vital role in helping the Institute create a lasting impact with its key stakeholders.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Batten Institute and works in close collaboration with every member of the Institute team, as well other units of Darden (and at times, UVA), including the Institute’s three Academic Directors.

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA. Primary areas of focus for the Program Manager include:

Helps project manage a diverse range of programs including: Events (e.g., Entrepreneurship Cup Launch, Darden DC Tech Connect, Southeast Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition Conference, Batten Scholars), student venture incubation (e.g., iLab Incubator, Entrepreneurs in Residence mentorship program), workshops and speaker series (e.g., Batten Presents, Tech Learning Series, Innovation Series), pitch competitions (e.g., E-Cup Concept/Discover/Launch), bootcamps and ecosystem “immersions,” webinars, and internships/fellowships (e.g., Batten Venture Internship Program, Darden Venture Fellows). These are delivered in Charlottesville, at Darden’s Sands Family Grounds in Rosslyn, VA, or in other major global ecosystems.
  • Integrates programming and initiatives focused on careers in startup, VC and tech with Career Center programs, offerings and approaches and systems/reporting.
  • Provides logistical and operational support to Batten’s flagship student-facing initiatives of E-Cup and iLab Incubator, including facility with the tech platforms used to manage them.
  • Proactively taps alumni networks and partners with the other centers at Darden to support student cultivation of entrepreneurial mindset, venture development and career advancement.

Faculty

  • Supports the Batten Institute’s thought leadership team as they curate and create content that brings a wider audience to faculty research in partnership with Communications & Marketing.
  • Engages select faculty through strategic planning and outreach for course speakers, conference panelists, guests, and case-writing opportunities.

Darden Enterprise

  • Collaborates with stakeholders across the Darden enterprise, including but not limited to the aforementioned departments as well as Admissions, Finance/Financial Aid, Darden Foundation (most notably Alumni and Alumni Career Services), and the Office of Research Services.

  • Implements ongoing management of communication channels and outreach for prospective and current students regarding Darden as a school for innovators such as enhancing and maintaining a web presence, social media, and current student intranet and other internal collateral.
  • Provides a centralized resource for tech professionals, entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial investors, would-be MBAs, alumni, and cross-Grounds partners to contact and connect with Darden.
  • Coordinates Batten initiatives that stretch across Darden including in curricular and co-curricular offerings, research and thought leadership, and engagement with external stakeholders. Helps manage team resources in these areas on a project-by-project basis.
