Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE
Develops, coordinates, and oversees the library programming for all ages at the City of Killeen Main Library.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties

CORE COMPETENCIES:

Plan, prepare and host story times for preschool and elementary children at the Main Library. Works in conjunction with Children’s Librarian to plan and conduct some online story times, when appropriate.

Plan activities and programs for adults, teens, and the general public at the Main Library and assists with off-site activities and programs.

Responsible for “makerspace” at Main Library, assisting with the development and scheduling of programs and events and assisting staff involved in the programs.

Compile and analyze statistics pertaining to library programs.

Investigate and develop plans for new or expanded services; recommend changes to existing programs.

Evaluate execution and effectiveness of library programs and perform after-action audits.

Establish and maintain a collegial and productive relationship with the Children’s Services Librarian, communicating and collaborating regularly.

Document and handle patron complaints appropriately and consistently, working cooperatively with Library Management to address and resolve such situations in a timely manner.

Provide bibliographic instruction, reader’s advisory service and reference assistance to customers and assist in the use of technology and online resources.

Adhere to, support, and effectively implement City and Library policy, procedures, and values; and communicate them to staff and to customers.

Oversee training and supervision of interns, volunteers and youth workers at assigned to assist with programs.

Work in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Library Services to provide professional-level selection of materials for young adult readers in accordance with library policies and best practices.

Perform additional tasks and assignments, as required by the Assistant Director of Library Services and Director of Library Services.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

1. Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; and
2. Two (2) years of experience in a public or school library.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Extensive knowledge of the principles of basic library practices and philosophy.
2. Skill in operating the listed tools and equipment.
3. Ability to interact productively and positively with all ages.
4. Ability to plan and implement library programming.
5. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
6. Ability to handle stressful situations.
7. Strong computer skills including standard office applications, database searching and navigation, and basic computer instruction skills.
8. Able to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computer, including word processing and spreadsheet software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc.); integrated library system such as Evergreen; networked financial and timeclock systems; telephone; copy machine; fax machine, and other occupation-related business equipment and software as needed;3D printers, Ellison machines.
