Job Description
Red Oak Public Library seeks a full-time Librarian to provide excellence in services and programs to the Red Oak community. This is an excellent position for an early career Librarian who will create engaging and informative programs, assist, and instruct patrons, who values the traditions of reader’s advisory and research, excels at connecting patrons to current technology and resources, and is excited by the possibility of promoting the Library to the community.


This position is under the supervision of the Library Director and is responsible for supervising staff as assigned in providing outreach, programming, and instruction to Red Oak Library patrons.


Your Impact:


An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.


  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to staff, the Library, and Community as assigned
  • Create and deliver presentations to community groups and partners
  • Outreach to the community to educate about Library services, resources and events
  • Plan, present and coordinate presenters for classes and events in person and online
  • Support staff training efforts
  • Act as in-charge staff in the absence of the Library Director
  • Plan and present inter-generational programming
  • Resolve patron issues, including Library account and policy questions
  • Connect patrons with Library and community resources and services, such as reading materials or community services
  • Provide instruction and research help in person, online, and over the phone
  • Works with staff to plan and promote Summer Learning events and programs


Requirements


You Qualifications:


An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.


  • Proficiency in a wide range of computer technology and software applications
  • Work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends
  • MLS or MLIS degree required
  • Excellent people skills and a commitment to working as a team toward success
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Creative ideas for programming and community outreach
  • Knowledge of digital services, and resources
  • One or more years of library experience preferred
  • Passion for connecting patrons to information, resources, books, etc.
