About Dean of Students Office - Student Inclusion & Belonging, First@DU
FIRST@DU supports all first-generation and low-income students at the University of Denver (DU). FIRST@DU intends to assist first-generation and low-income students by providing resources, support, and funding to help enrich their experience through pre-orientation, academic workshops, cohort experiences (1GENU, VIP). seminars, events, mentoring, and 4D experience for all first-generation and low-income students.
Position Summary
The Program Coordinator of FIRST@DU for First-Generation Experience develops programs and resources to support all first-generation and low-income students to create an exemplary first-generation student experience at DU. Manage and coordinate communication and social media for FIRST@DU. FIRST@DU primarily serves first-generation students. The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of FIRST@DU First-Generation Experience. This position supports the Senior Director in setting the vision for first-generation and low-income undergraduate and graduate student support through an intersectional approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This position supervises graduate and undergraduate students.
The Program Coordinator will work in deeply collaborative ways with the Senior Director and FIRST@DU team to: (1) utilize best practices to develop an exemplary first-generation and low-income undergraduate and graduate student experience; (2) build community and assist first-generation students in developing a sense of belonging; (3) support and advocate for first-generation students, and students from a variety of marginalized positionalities; and (4) foster the public good as centrally informed by a commitment to racial, ethnic, cultural, and other social equity outcomes on our campus and beyond.
The Program Coordinator will work evenings and weekends, as needed. This position is a full-time, 1.0 FTE position reporting to the Director of FIRST@DU, First generation experience. This position is funded by a 5 year grant.
This is a gift funded, term position with renewal after the five years contingent upon available funding and/or program development.
Essential Functions
Departmental Leadership
  • Support the development of the components of the FIRST@DU program
  • Develop and manage communication, social media and website for FIRST@DU program
  • Work in partnership with Parent and Family Engagement to develop a program to support and engage first generation and low-income students' families
  • Support Senior Director of FIRST@DU in creating a vision and direction for FIRST@DU
  • Cultivate connection and engagement of first-generation and low-income students and BIPOC students, both undergraduate and graduate students
  • Support event planning of the yearly calendar and signature FIRST@DU programs to support first-generation and low-income undergraduate and graduate student success, including planning First-generation week
  • Develop student support initiatives for first-generation and low-income undergraduate and graduate students
  • Contribute to creating and providing training and professional development for undergraduate and graduate students supporting FRIST@DU programs
  • Collaboratively develop, plan, coordinate, and implement graduation celebration, and other community events/workshops, and speakers for FIRST@DU
Administration
  • Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive assessment plan to continue to evolve services and outreach to support the persistence of all first-generation students
  • Other duties as assigned. In partnership with supervisor, determine additional duties including university, divisional, and area committees.
  • Administer budget for FIRST@DU programs
  • Maintain updated notes in the appropriate FERPA protected database (Banner and INSPIRE) in a timely manner within 24 business hours of the student meeting
  • Communicate with university and outside vendors and organizations as necessary for programming
Supervision
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate graduate student assistants and undergraduate students
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Self-starter with ability to coordinate several tasks simultaneously with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Experience with Banner, Slate, Concur, Qualtrics, 25 Live, Crimson Connect would be a plus
  • Familiarity with communication tools and techniques
  • Ability to stay current on the variety and trends of digital platforms, cloud-based utilities and social media
  • Possess a high degree of integrity and behave in an ethical manner
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook) Zoom, and Qualtrics
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to problem solve in a changing environment
  • Familiarity with web-based data management and modern office practices and procedures
  • Capacity to be flexible and creative in a dynamic and fun environment
  • Ability to work with internal and external constituents in a confidential, friendly and responsive manner via phone, email, face-to-face meetings and video conferencing;
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2 years of relevant administrative and customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with communication, social media management and website development
  • Experience working with first-generation, minoritized, and other underrepresented college students
  • Bilingual
  • Experience with college access and success programs
  • Knowledge of student development
Working Environment
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
Physical Activities
  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Hourly Range
The hourly range for the position is $23.50-$25.54

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
