Reports To: Director of Operations/Assistant Director of Operations


Status: Exempt/Salary


Supervises: Production Employees


General Description: The Production Supervisor manages, directs, and coordinates overall plant operations as directed by senior level management. The Production Supervisor is a key member of the team and provides leadership to employees by fostering an environment of trust and open communications, developing future talent, and ensuring achievement of safety, food safety, and quality.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following.


  • Lead, coach, and mentor direct reports in alignment with business objectives and staff development.
  • Review weekly/monthly production initiatives with staff to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Maintain communication between all the Creamery’s departments.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, orders, and product inconsistencies.
  • Plan, assign and direct the work of subordinate staff for the achievement of operational goals and objectives.
  • Provide ongoing communication of department performance toward key measures to management.
  • Administer and document disciplinary procedures, both verbal and written, when necessary.
  • Direct production control operations to ensure the operating needs of the company are met.
  • Manage both union and non-union employees/teams.
  • Assist in developing key metrics with staff that are aligned with company objectives including quality, safety, efficiency, yields, downtime, on time delivery, order fulfillment rate, inventory, schedule stability, resource utilization, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Assist in support and initiate change in production control to promote continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of processes and policies.
  • Evaluate and appraise employees’ performance, follow-up with proper documentation both directly and as part of a team.
